What is the most simple way to copy the recordings from the Sky+ HD box using ExPVR? What leads are needed? Are there any DVD recorders which are better for doing this than others?
Jo 4,
What are you trying to do?
If you want to save Sky Recordings you need something that will record the TV onto another media, such as a DVD recorder id the PVR that was on Amazon today (was a black Friday deal, probably come around again this week) https://www.hotukdeals.com/visit?m=1650&q=2060598
ExPVR still won't allow you to copy encrypted recordings into an unencrypted form to watch else where. the only want to do that is to play them and record them on something else.0 -

There are a few recordings on their Sky+ box that the owner wants to keep but they want to be able to view them again when they want. At the moment their Sky box is full but they cannot get round to watching the recordings of it because they are too busy at the mo so if they could copy the things they really, really want to keep then they could view them again and again at a later date if they want to. (Sorry if I am not making sense at the moment I am not feeling well)0 -

Makes sense.
There are three options.
First record them to another device, effectively playing them as normal but instead of the owner records them while they get on with something else.
Second is use software such as ExPVR or Copy+ to move everything to a larger disk (Copy+ can only do to 1TB) up to 2TB in size, but that also depends on what they have already and what the box is as to what options there are here. Once copied off it needs to be copied back to watch, so are they any good changing computer hard drives back and forth?
Third is to use Copy+ or ExPVR to move the free to air (ie anything that's effectively on freeview) off onto a computer.
Options 2 and 3 will void the warranty as you need to take the hard drive out of the box, its not hard but its something to consider.
If they want to keep the items and are thinking of leaving Sky then option1 is the only viable one, but it's time consuming.
They could also check for stuff that's repeated ad inifintum or where the box may have recorded multiple copies and delete it. We once set up a season pass for Family guy and it quickly took over due to all the repeats on, setting it to new ops only and deleting the old solved the issue.
I'd also suggest if they have a full disk then clearing any space is probably a short term measure it will soon fill up again.0 -

Thank you for taking the time to respond and post all that information!! :T
The first option seems the easiest and therefore is the most suitable to me at the mo. What device could the Sky+ HD be recorded to and what leads would be required?0 -

Hi
Device wise a dvd or video recorder or some other way to save video, its possible the owner already has one in the house of some sort. Obviously VHS will do but will be a lesser quality than the Sky box output.
Lead wise, depends on the Sky box, (I think all have SCART) and what it has but a SCART lead from the Sky Box into the recorder, Set the recorder to record from the AV input, hit record on the VCR.DVD recorder then play on the Sky box and leave as long as needed.
Boring but easy..0 -
One circumstance where you might want it is if you've downloaded something which has a timeout, but you'd like to keep it for longer.0
