Hi
Sorry if this is the wrong board for this - but it could be of interest. Just rang Barclaycard on the 0333 number to get a replacement card as mine is damaged. Entered my card number and passcode when prompted. It says it finds my account and then I get through to an operator.
Her: Thankyou for calling Barclaycard, my name is *****, am I speaking to Mr Andrew *******?
Me: Err no.
Her: You're not Mr ********?
Me: No. I'm Mr ########
<long pause>
Her: Okaaaaaaaay. Just bear with me......
Me: I think you've got a data protection issue there
Apparently Mr ******** had called just before and the call had been disconnected but his details were still on the screen when I started talking. She had to take my details again and find my account manually.
Not good in this day and age. One for the ICO maybe?
Wonder what the next caller got. Stay alert......

They didn't disclose anything so no breach and i know the system I used at an old job if a call terminated there would be a delay in the next file coming up
also i would think had you said yes to being mr ***** then they would have taken you through dpa again anywayFirst Date 08/11/2008, Moved In Together 01/06/2009, Engaged 01/01/10, Wedding Day 27/04/2013, Baby Moshie due 29/06/2019 :T0 -
Can't see an issue ? She called you by another name, where's the data protection problem ?
I've done it myself, as long as no information was given relating to the other person, whats the problem ?0 -
Fair enough, but i wonder what i might have been able to do if I'd said "yes I am Mr ********".0

So you would be committing identity theft? Unless you know the person he mentioned, I doubt they would release much personal details over live chat anyways that would be of any use0 -

Normally you would have had to have gone through dpa again to confirm itFirst Date 08/11/2008, Moved In Together 01/06/2009, Engaged 01/01/10, Wedding Day 27/04/2013, Baby Moshie due 29/06/2019 :T0 -

Get over it. Simple IVR/Computer system mistake. Hardly handing out personal details is it?
I hope this isn't word for word either as you came across as very arsey, no wonder people moan about bad customer service! They make a simple mistake and get the DPA thrown in their face.0 -
