Annoying pop-ups in Chrome - how can I get rid?

Hi all,
Using Chrome in Windows 7 Ultimate at the moment and I've recently started getting new tabs being opened seemingly at random with annoying ads.
Tried everything to get them to stop. Pesky thing is not listed as an extension to Chrome, Malwarebytes shows my system as clean, Adaware doesn't spot anything either. Any ideas on what to try next? Do you think uninstalling and reinstalling Chrome would work or would whatever it is reattach itself to any new installation?
Any advice appreciated. Thanks

Adblock plus should help with any ads and pop ups.
