Carpets and Curtains Question - How to approach

Hi Everyone
Just looking a bit of advice.
How/when do you find out if the people you are buying your house from will leave the carpets and curtains that are in the house. Do they declare a list to your solicitor?
Do you come out and ask if they are going to leave them and if/how much money they would want for them?
I know that the house they are moving to none of the carpets and curtains would be any use. However, I am sure that they are not going to leave them for nothing.
The carpets etc are not our taste BUT they would do for a while and allow us to save up and get out own and better than bare floor boards/windows.
Any advice from anyone who has done this?
Thanks

What I've done is to include them in the offer, e.g. £95k is my offer but that would be on condition that the carpets, curtains, curtain poles and blinds are included.0

They will fill out a form once the buying/selling has started. It's rare (but not unheard of) for people to take the carpet. I'd be very reluctant to put that thought into their head!
Curtains, a lot do take. But don't fret too much, you really can pick up some cheap ones for not a lot. I wouldn't be paying anyone for theirs. If they left them, great, but I'd rather live with a sheet at the window for a couple of weeks, or to get dressed in the dark, then turn the light on!
I have these 'Kayleigh' curtains in both silver and teal in my house - and the teal especially always get admired. Not that expensive http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=kayleigh%20curtains&sprefix=kayleigh+curtai%2Caps

If it's been a month, your solicitor should have been sent a Fixtures and Fittings list by now, completed by your vendors. Ours are leaving all carpets and curtains, we didn't need to ask. Give your solicitor a call and ask them if they've received it yet. Ours emailed it over.Mother, wife, scientist, analyst.

Phone the EA and say one of the following (depending on how bullish you feel) :
"Can you ask the vendors if they are leaving the carpets and curtains?"
Or
"I'm assuming the vendors are leaving the carpets and curtains, can you confirm that with them?"
Or
"Can you ask the vendors how much they want for their carpets and curtains?"
Once you have reached an agreement, tell your solicitor what it is.
(I wouldn't try to negotiate this kind of thing through solicitors.)0 -
I thought it was normal to leave most fixtures and fittings such as carpets curtains and built in appliances? It would never have crossed my mind to take ours tbh and our vendor is leaving theirs too (without needing g to ask, it's on the fixtures and fittings forms from the solicitors)
The only things we are taking are the curtains from little girls room as they are a set with the duvet cover. Blinds, carpets etch have all been cut for the rooms so wouldn't have entertained taking them.0 -
All should be revealed on form TA10, the fittings and contents form, which should have been filled in by now and sent to you, along with form TA6, the property information form.0

The estate agent asked me when we negotiating to sell our house. Carpets we left obviously, curtains and blinds we took some and left others. Our vendors left most of their curtains but some were horrible and it was useful to have our own to replace them with especially in the childrens rooms.0

I contacted our solicitor who said that he is awaiting this list. He said that he will chase it and forward it to me when he has it.
Thanks to everyone for their responses.Jellynose0 -
Ask the agent to chase it as well if you haven't heard from the seller in a month. Are you sure they are going to sell?!0
