BT - credit file

I seem to be getting into (hasn't yet, but I can see it going that way) a bit of a disagreement with BT.

I've switched to the Post Office for my landline and I'm awaiting a proper final bill from BT. They seem to be being a bit sneaky and quoting the call element, but not listing the rental element (i.e. just telling us we owe a certain amount but not for what period).

I think they are trying to charge us for an extra line month rental over and above the part month line rental we owe.

I've written to them asking to break it down and give me billing dates, but I get the feeling it's not going to go smoothly.

I've already had the late payment letter and the usual threats that it will get sent out to debt collection. I'm quite happy to pay what is owed, and have said so, I just want a breakdown to see that I'm not paying for anything I shouldn't (which it appears I am).

What's the process of getting anything removed from my credit file if BT put anything on it?

BT doesn't report to Noddle. Not sure about others.

If they have incorrectly reported to a CRA though you'll need to raise a complaint with BT and have them contact the CRA to have it removed.
  • LAst time I checked last (Nov/Dec for my mortgage application) they reported to Equifax.

Good luck getting anything removed if you haven't paid their bill, any complaints can take months. If you're not applying for credit any time soon then it shouldn't be a worry for you.

Would probably be a good idea to at least pay what part of the bill you do not dispute. Or perhaps even pay it all then claim back anything wrong, through the ombudsman if needed.

As said BT are a pain, and once harmed it could be a long road to getting credit file damage put right.

Sounds like they can behave how they like. Luckily I don't need to apply for a mortgage or any large credit (that's behind me now thankfully).

I'd rather go head to head with them, than pay them off (like some have suggested) and have to chase them to get the money back.

I shall check Equifax and if they play silly !!!!!!s, then I can be an awkward sod. I shall await their reply, should be this week.

I would agree with fermi. Just pay it all then argue your case.
