Monday 24 November - What small DFW things will you do today?

Options
When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important :money:

  • Have not put on any machines cheap rate. Decided today will be a challenge. Have been away, had a lovely time, did not over spend, but am exhausted.

So today I will take a packed lunch and hope to get home, after a NSD. If I manage this, it will be enough!

Why is having a lovely time so tiring?

    Morning folks,

Thanks to ziggy for starting us off :)

I'm feeling fairly refreshed today: had a quite lazy weekend.

    Today's mse mission:
    • B/L/D from stores
    • Wrote shopping list for OH - he's bought most of it
    • Check online banking - done. Moved rent to current account.
    • Take bagged coins to bank at lunchtime - they would only accept 5 bags. Grrr.
    • Took writing box that OH didn't want into work and gave to a colleague - done
    • Do flylady's mission of the day
    • Crochet/needlework later
    • Charge phone in work - done
    • Meal plan for week
    • Make a small loaf of bread for me
    • Fed the Christmas cake - done
    • Re-direct OH's parcel to my work instead of driving three towns up the road to pick it up! - done
Think there might be more but will add as I think of them!

    Have a good one all

    For me today:

Brr, cold here this morning, but heating on only in bathroom, airing cupboard and loft conversion, on timer, as usual. Will light the woodburner later, but will hold out as long as I can! Managed to not light it till OH came in at about 4pm

Check banks Done, not looking great :o
Small shop - I need 3 specific items which were on my list yesterday but were not on the shelves for some reason. Actually bought more than 3 items as I popped into Aldi and bought some of their super 6 :o - but I only spent £4.39 so not too bad
Use 25p off Sainsburys voucher - every little helps Went to Aldi instead
Record spend for Grocery Challenge Done
Check sales unit whilst out Done, a few bits gone over the weekend. Also took some bits to the charity shop while I was out. They have been rattling around in my car for ages, and now they are gone :)
Make a quiche for dinner - I have the pastry shell already (made it yesterday) Still to do - might make a chicken pie as well while I have the oven on, with leftover chicken from yesterday :)Update: I made the quiche, a chicken pie and some apple tarts as well
Remove rest of yesterday's roast chicken from the bones and put the bones into the SC for stock. OH is doing that now
Make some soup - tomato and chilli I think :)Done, very nice!
Housework - I haven't done much over the weekend and a tidy up is much needed  Blitzed downstairs

Hope everyone has a good day :)

    Hi all

It's so cold today! I think I'm badly affected because we had a long weekend away and I'm shattered, but I'm working from home fully dressed in a sleeping bag with a scarf and woolly hat on!

We're having lunch from things already in the house but I do need to go to the supermarket to get some veg. I was hoping for a total no spend day but that is not to be.

I have some eBay listings to do and hopefully will have the energy to do those after work. I also want to make a start on the Christmas cards that I'm doing for family and some craft projects which are intended for sale.

I am down to about £50 with PayDay on Friday and I need some fuel plus I have a £10 spend mid week. I have to work out how many miles I will be doing this week, then work out how much diesel I should need on top of what I already have and then I can just put that amount in rather than a full tank.

I checked and my expenses were paid so those should hit my account on Wednesday. Unless something jumps up and bites me in the proverbial, I'm looking forward to paying that off a credit card - I have a balance of £818.50 that I want to pay off by the end of the year and this will be a nice chunk of it :)

    Debt-free and Proud!
Morning all - thanks Ziggy for starting us off - hope you're feeling better this week.

Carrie - I have a big jar of coins that I need to sort through too - is the Post Office the best place to take them?

For me, it's a boring one:

Meals from stores - got plenty of food in from the weekend.
Checked banks - looking decidedly less healthy after a weekend of Christmas shopping - I need to reconcile the guilty feelings at having spent this money! I haven't got into more debt for it, and I haven't taken from my savings pot.
Today should be a NSD. Yesterday wasn't, as I went to pick up a parcel I'd ordered from Boots on Saturdays (I love free delivery to your local store) and decided to get petrol while I was out.
Did a Nectar e-rewards survey - up to £55 of points on my Nectar card (mostly from shopping and petrol) which will definitely go towards food for Christmas.

Hope everyone is warm where they are!

    Hello,

I have found you all again! I need to put a reminder on my mirror about the DFW board.

Dawn, I know the feeling about looking at bank statements :o:eek:

Money is so tight at the moment, so have my thinking cap on to try and see how we can afford christmas and birthday gifts that look nice for not a lot of outlay.

Washing machine on and will hang clothes on the airer to dry.

Then need to go through the pantry and freezers so that I can menu plan, will try and live out of the freezers and pantry this next month to save money.

    Take care all.

I'm not sure I'm afraid, I got some coin bags from the bank and bagged them up. I think they weigh them at the bank so they don't have to count them. I'll just pay them into my account.

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
    Hi All
After my computer fail yesterday (wrote you all a lovely long message and then lost it) I am going to get my list up then edit as I go!

    So far today:
    1. Found a £1 coin & a penny.
    2. Used the found money to buy some YS fresh tomatoes at 15p instead of 70p, a can of basics red kidney beans, a can of chopped toms & a fresh bread baton.
    3. Have used up portion number 3 of 6, of the beef mince YS haul from the other night (got £19 worth of Aberdeen Angus beef mince for £4.55 in Tesco) with that & the above I have cooked a chilli for tonights dinner. Dinner 1 was Shepards Pie, Dinner 2, Spag Bol, & tommorow will be lasagne. Then Im stuck :) Any mince suggestions.
    4. An item sold on ebay last night for £20 so I posted that out today. Was really pleased as postage was only £3.90 for recorded 2nd class, so a good profit on the £7 postage I'd set.
    5. Reheated a cup of coffee from my breakfast pot to have now.
    6. Stock pot on the stove keeping me warm whilst I am in my kitchen.
    7. Having a tortilla wrap for lunch using up odds & ends, including a scrape of hummus, a few salad leaves & some chopped cucumber.
    8. Husband is on jury service so he is getting a daily allowance for food saving us for lunches.
    9. Sent a text to a local Mum who has left my sons school asking if she had any gloves, hat, scarf to sell in the school colours. She hadnt, but she does have a car that they absolutely must sell by next monday because they are emmigrating! It sounds lovely, and only £600. After Car Gate it would be good to purchase from someone we know, & the price is right. Hoping her buyer today doesnt take it :(
    10. As our home contents insurance is paid up till Jan, I will have an extra £13 this month (tommorow) to allocate to something. Probably one of the CCs.
    11. Checked both my accounts. New boss is going to pay my first invoice today which is great. We may be able to pay off almost £500 this month on the CCs which would be the first time this year we've had any money to lump sum.
    12. Posted all my sons birthday thank you's out today. 2nd class stamps. Put his school thank you's into his book bag without envelopes but named on the cards. School is pretty good at playing postman & I thought do 21 children really care about an envelope?
    13. Have completed the GC challenge for November. I found it really useful & it has left me determined to save even more this month. I am convinced if I shift to Aldi for at least one shop a week I can save another £15 on my efforts this month.

Sorry to post & run, back later!
