Norwich and Peterborough new sort code

N&P are changing their sort code to 40-65-00 and enabling incoming Faster Payments 7 days per week from the end of Jan 2015.

New debit cards and cheque books too apparently.

Servicing at Yorkshire and Chelsea branches at some point later.

I guess this is all part of the integration across the brands, so whilst they've promised to keep separate names, I'm sure there will be cross-branch servicing before too long. My local N&P has already been rebranded, and I'm not sure what will happen to the YBS agency almost next door.

It will be interesting to see if they offer the current account under all four building society brands.

Yorkshire only promised to keep the brands for a few years after each merger - I wouldn't be surprised to see all the branches rebranded Yorkshire in due course.

My letter arrived a few days ago.

It appears, after looking at Wikipedia, they're switching from using the Co-op to HSBC for clearing.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norwich_and_Peterborough_Building_Society:
Cheques are cleared through the Co-operative Bank Plc...

I'm a little surprised they have to change sort code to make the switch, though. Perhaps it demonstrates sort codes are hard-wired in to the system and why account number portability would be difficult to achieve.

The new sort code works now for faster payments in. Tested on a payment set up yesterday to go in today and also for a faster payment sent this morning. Timescales for payments to show seem to be the same as before.

Where did you get cross-brand branch servicing from? Didn't see any mention of that in my letter (but would be great!)
