Laptop Problems

Hey everyone,

My mum recently spilt some coffee on her laptop and after cleaning it and letting it dry out, its not coming on at all, I was wondering if anyone could suggest what else I could try and do to get it back up and running again as my mum has a lot of important stuff on it that I didn't get around to backing up.

Thanks

Was it unplugged from the mains and the battery removed immediately? If not the motherboard may be fried. Depending on exact make and model it might be worth doing if a motherboard can be sourced at reasonable cost.

Your data on the harddrive should be ok. Simply remove the hard disk put it in a usb caddy and connect it to another computer as an external drive.

I thought it would of damaged the motherboard and how would I go about removing the hard drive?

  • take the laptop to your local shop and buy a usb hard drive from them , then say "pretty please" (if you are female) would you remove my laptops hard drive and copy everything over to it.

they may do it cheaper or free , after a sale
  • and before doing any of the above check home insurance policy first, it may be covered.

and if it is covered, get any data off the hard drive before sending the laptop off.
  • Thanks for all your help everyone I have managed to take the hard drive out and I will be going to get a usb caddie tomorrow so im able to transfer all my mums stuff onto her new laptop.
