Car tax duty
Hi MSE's :hello:
I have two questions for you
1) Just bought a new second hand car and was wondering if I tax it now will I have to pay for the whole month of November even though its the 23rd today? Or is it more beneficial to wait until 1st December?
2) My old vehicle, is being sold. How do I claim a refund on the tax and should I do this at the end of the month?
Many thanks

If you tax new car now it will be from start of November as it always has been.0

If you've sold your old car and don't tax the new one until December how you going to get around for the next week?0
-
Thanks guys. I thought that was the case.
Haven't sold it yet! It's going up for sale! Was awaiting tax decision. I'll have to wait 7 days.

You don't need any 'log-book' - what you need is the part V5C/2 - often called the 'new owner's supplement' - which the seller should have given you.
But if you are not going to pay the VED on your new car now, you'll have to leave it with the seller or dealer where you bought it.
You can't drive it home without paying the VED. (or Road Tax as some folks still insist in calling it)0 -
Can you declare SORN before you get the log book in your own name or has that changed as well?0
-
You are not able to SORN the car online with the new keeper supplement. There is no 11 or 16 digit number that works. You need the log book in your name or contact the DVLA. I am great , yes I am

On the V5C/2 (New Keepers details), theres a Doc. Ref. No.
Mines is 12 digits long, starting with a 2. If you drop the 2, the 11 digits left are the same as the reference number on the front of the V5C.0 -
