Chargebacks

After reading on here about Chargebacks I applied for a Chargeback to my MasterCard company for an item I had not received. I have never done this before.

It came back refused.

My MasterCard company contacted me and invited me to provide more details with a deadline until when the refusal could be challenged.

My question is how many times this can go backwards and forwards?

Thanks for help

As many times as it needs to, they want info send them it. They don't just refund you because you claim non delivery they will need to investigate.

when I claimed a chargeback I had to completea form with the details and forward evidence of what I had done to get the item e.g details of phone calls which always went to answer machine , copies of emails I sent which went unanswered.

If you provided all the necessary information and they still refuse it, you can refer your complaint to the financial ombudsman.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride
  • If you provided all the necessary information and they still refuse it, you can refer your complaint to the financial ombudsman.

If a chargeback has been asked for and then looked into by the card issuer and they consider that there is little chance of a successful outcome and won't proceed any further then the Ombudsman won't get involved.

They will only help if the card issuer refuses to even consider the matter. If they have looked at all of the evidence and rejected the claim, then the Ombudsman considers that the card issuer has acted fairly.

How much was the item, and is the Mastercard a credit card or a debit card?

Could it be that the sender of the item allegedly not received has shown the card company proof of delivery?

OP you need to provide more information.
If they haven't supplied it already, you need to ask the card company why they have refused the chargeback.

Chargebacks are not a legal requirement but more a service the banks offer so the financial ombudsman will not get involved the same way they do with a S75 claim.

Also unlike S75 there is no joint liability on the banks so the success of a chargeback also depends on whether or not the bank can claw the money back from the merchant bank it was given to, so if the retailer has no money they cant recover it for the customer.
