Royal Mail's iammoving Change of address service - Any Experience?

We are about to move house and I came across a service on Royal Mail's website which links to iammovingdotcom, whereby they will inform, for free, the companies you select from their list of 1500, of your change of address. Sounds great, but it occurred to me that it could be a nightmare if it doesn't work very well. Does anyone here have experience (good or bad) of using this service? Or any other tips to make this enormous but necessary task any easier.

Last time I tried to use it granted 2 years ago, you put your details in and in 80% of cases it then completed a standard letter for you to print out and post to the organisation.

I then posted them and about 40% of the organisations sent me forms to fill in to change my address details or a website link.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)

Seen as it is a free service I would use it anyway, but not neccessarily as a substitute for contacting companies individually.

Use the service, ring the companies up a week later (after the time period it takes Royal Mail) to check if address updated. Then you can pick off the ones that haven't gone through.

It can only make things easier rather than increasing workload. Worse case scenario... it's not successful so you'll have to contact all the companies yourself which you would have had to do anyway.

Remember, Royal Mail also offer a mail redirection service for a fee.
  • You could use the free service you have nothing to lose. I've used the royal mail redirection service before. I will be using it again very shortly. I picked up the form to fill out from the post office yesterday, here are the costs:

    UK address Abroad (air mail)
    1 month £7.10 £14.30
    3 months £15.55 £31.10
    6 months £23.95 £47.90
    12 months £35.95 £71.90

Hope this helps but it is not totally reliable some letters still don't get sent on.

royal mal service is very good.

iammiving is not. most of the time they print letters for you to send off which are not accepted by the organisations (especialy DVLA). total waste of time IMO.

something to be aware of with the redirection service(which i dont think they highlight?) is that larger items wont get redirected.
eg items that go to a driver for delivery as your postie deals with the redirection.
so if your ordering anything large using a card registered at the old address you may get problems

Royal Mail will charge you for a service and then sell your details on.

If you don't want junk mail, cold calling etc at your new address be very wary of using Royal Mail redirection services. - They sell your details via mailing lists to all the nuisance companies you can think of.

I'm sure there would be an opt in/out option but personally, after more than the five years it has taken to eliminate junk mail, I'd be very wary.

I used the iammoving service and whilst there were some forms to print out, the majority of my suppliers were notified via email. All of them then either sent me an email confirmation when the address was changed and/or a letter to both old and new addresses. So I personally found it a very useful service.

the majority of the redirection was fine - it went haywire for a few weeks so I complained to Royal Mail. They sent me a couple of books fo first class stamps and an apology - I was quite impressed!
