Getting from hotel to airport - Tenerife

Hello

I've booked a flight from Tenerife South Airport to Manchester 14/12/2014. Flight departs at 12.25
So I've to get from the hotel somehow (be live playa la arena). Obviously in true MSE style it would be cheaper to get the bus, but it take a huge amount of time circa 2 hours if I have read the website correctly. But the airport recommends arriving 3 hours (non Schenegen countries) before the flight departs. So back tracking time wise that would mean leaving the hotel at 7.25 at the latest. Don't fancy that as it means missing breakfast and getting up stupidly early. So that leaves a taxi as the sole alternative.
Tripadvisor is a clear as mud as to a guide price so have any MSE'rs been there recently and used a taxi? What kind of price am I looking at and will it cost more than the flight €49?

You could try emailing the hotel and asking them how much a taxi would cost.

If you choose to do it by taxi it will cost between 55/60 Euro's for that journey. Approx distance is 35 miles and will take between 45/50 mins from the time the driver arrives at your hotel until you are dropped off at south airport arrivals. I this situation {MSE} it is a case of balancing cost against time, personally I would choose to use the taxi route at the time you are saying but we always use the buses when arriving or departing the island and that is from Puerto de la Cruz in the north {our journey times one way up to 120 mins depending on time of day} :0)

Would car hire make more sense?

Be careful with Resorthoppa in Tenerife, there are a lot of bad reviews from people not being picked up for the return journey to the airport and having the panic {and cost} of having to get a local taxi at the last minute with no refunds. I am not saying it happens all the time but people do not want that worry at the end of a holiday.

Car would be a fair choice, straight motorway run there and back, not hard to park in the area but if chosen go for Autoreisen as companies like Goldstar seem far cheaper but with all that they add on it works out a LOT dearer

Would agree on Autoreisen over Goldcar (for many reasons), though I do prefer Cicar to Autoreisen. Both have very good service, all-inclusive prices and fair fuel policy. I've found that Cicar, though slightly more expensive, have cars in better shape than Autoreisen - of course that may depend on what time in their fleet renewal cycle you hire.

OP - as a side issue, in my experience you don't need to be at TFS airport 3 hours before a flight. I've never arrived more than 2 hours before, and that's including when travelling on Ryanair with family and associated check-in luggage in tow. I haven't flown in Dec, but hasn't been a problem getting though the airport, and you're travelling on a Sunday morning so traffic shouldn't be a big issue. I write this in good faith, and also in expectation that others will suggest arriving as early as possible "just in case", you may even get some airport hotel recommendations for the previous night...;)

I'd agree with the above poster, 3 hours before your flight at Tenerife will be excessive. 2 hours will be plenty.

Have you considered booking a shuttle transfer? Travel Republic transfers are quoting £8.96 per person for your trip. Or £13.08 for a "speedy shuttle" (less stops). Resorthoppa are similar prices, they estimate 1 hour 10 minutes for the normal shuttle, or 55mins for the speedy one.

You could also prebook a taxi now if you wanted a guaranteed price. suntransfers.com are excellent and quote €51.60, about £40.

You would think that I don't get out much. I do just not to holiday resorts. Had heard of Travel Republic never had any need to use their services before so I'll be giving them a go. Can't be any more stressful than relying on Trans Pennine Express to get me to Manchester Airport on time.
