in Credit cards
Hi there
I have a Halifax Clarity Credit card and must say it is great when travelling. Very favourable exchange rates and no fees.
I have read the T&C and think that I can continue to operate the card, regardless of whether I continue to hold a Halifax Ultimate Reward current account.
Seriously considering changing to Santander for the 3% and cashback offers, but don't want to do so if Halifax terminate the card.
Has anyone any first hand experience of doing this?
Many thanks
Gordon

Firstly, Halifax won't close/ask you to close the Clarity card.
Secondly, why are you throwing £60 a year away? Simply downgrade the Ultimate Reward account to a Reward account and, providing you meet the T&Cs (£750 a month funding and 2 DDs paying out), you'll continue to get your free fivers.0 -

To get the £5 reward on the Clarity, if you do not have the Ultimate Reward Account you need to fund your current account with >£1000 per month. Says so in the terms and conditions.
REWARD PAYMENT 11.1 If you meet the requirements set out in condition 11.2, then for any statement period in which you:- (a) make at least £300 of Purchases (once any Purchases refunded in that period have beend deducted);
(b) stay within your credit limit; and
(c) make your minimum monthly payment;
you will qualify for a £5 credit to your account in the following month. The credit will not be treated as a payment to your account under these conditions.
11.2 To be eligible for the reward set out in condition 11.1, you must, at the time you enter into this agreement:- (a) hold a Halifax current account and pay in £1,000 or more each month;
(b) use our switching service to move your current account to a Halifax Current Account and agree to pay in £1,000 or more each month;
(c) open or hold a Halifax Ultimate Reward Current Account.
In answer to the OP, you don't have to bank with them to have the Clarity card anyway.0 -

Yep sorry pal :beer:0 -
Thanks for comments, but I will be better off by about £500 by moving to santander, keeping between £10K and 20K in the account for 3% interest, together with cash back on mortgage, phone and utility bills.0

Have both. Keep your money in Santander, shuffle £750 back and forward between it and Halifax once a month for your free £5.
Also 1,000th post :beer:0 -
And if you also think about other accounts, you can do much better than 3% on your money.0

I do it with Halifax, tsb and nationwideDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0
