You been looking here for 16+ months, and had lots of "advice"!

i've had a lot going on, and haven't got round to sorting it...no problem with that, surely.. and i'm just asking a fair question:A
  • Go and see a local IFA.
Don't rely on free amateur advice on here.
  • I do not have any of the products that you are interested in so following is my experience with Forester Life.

I do remember that the representative came to my house and all was very amicable.

He wanted to know far too much of my personal and financial details for his company form filling whilst all I wanted was the product. At some point I said that Forester Life already knew more than enough to go ahead and so I refused to give any more information.

My initial product with Forester Life commenced over 14 years ago which was cashed in back in 2006 as an investment loss. Forester Life did keep in touch and called again for a chat but with an obvious eye to promoting another product.

I became a member of Forester Life again with the transfer of policies that I had with both Children's Mutual and CWFS (Communication Workers FS) to Forester Life.

I am not inclined to invest in more products but that is more to do with my present situation and not really any reflection on Forester Life.

Have you considered Wesleyan Assurance which is Birmingham based so in your neck of the woods.

thanks jonesMUFC... not looking to 'rely' on anything here, just raising it to see if there is any useful feedback :)

& thanks pp. i have just read your reply on another forum, so i will copy my reply here too:D

"thank you for your reply pp. i suppose it is a case of them wanting a 'full picture' of you, and your circumstances, so that they can try to 'help' you as much as possible. i tend to think there is nothing wrong with that approach, as long as the representative is pleasant, and they are able to accept that you know exactly what you want....at the point that that becomes the case

i will speak to them further, and consider other options.

i am a member of Wesleyan with my SHP. from my understanding previously, they do not offer their own LI/CIC/IP products, but introduce those of other providers. this appeals less to me..i will probably either go through a broker, for 'the best deal' or will join a mutual society. the latter option does have an appeal, as protection is something that i really want to feel is with a 'good' organisation.
    "

i know you are a fan of mutuals pp, from other threads here, and elsewhere. i am looking to identify some that offer what i am looking for..and then compare with other options available. and as discussed elsewhere too, i have been unsure re. paying for insurance of this kind, and that is probably why i have never got round to arranging these policies so far.

I used to be an account manager for a life office (Friends provident, now friends life) I can honestly say that in my time there forresters was never brought up as credible competition for life/CI/PHI in 3 years of being there.

Thats not to say the policy was bad or is bad now but if it were that good im sure I would have come up against them at some point or another.

is that not based on the fact that Foresters, and other providers in the market, are just small?

hi planteria .. the following is really hot off the press.

I had a look at Reliance Mutual which I am a member. https://www.reliancemutual.co.uk/

Please first look at the home page. This is what you were looking for.
Playing a more active membership role

If you’re interested in taking part in a sounding board to help further develop dialogue between the Board and members please read on. The Board would like to make sure that it keeps in touch with members’ opinions, particularly in relation to governance and strategy, and so would be interested in forming a Members’ Panel to help facilitate this. Initially interest and ideas about content are likely to be exchanged electronically but the idea would be to hold meetings, in localities where interest is most concentrated, as soon as possible. If you are interested please telephone the Company Secretary on 01892 773214 or email

Moving on .. In November Reliance Mutual have created a new trading division: called THERE.

See again the Reliance Mutual home page: https://www.there.co.uk/

This might be of interest to you and I have been advised that products promoted by 'THERE' will afford Reliance Mutual membership.:)

Although you may wish to review financial strength of a provider before committing to such an important piece of insurance.

I just been on the Foresters website. Their CIC plan covers 22-conditions, far less than most of the more well known mainstream providers and total & permanent diasbility is only offered on a daily living tasks basis.

Based on this alone I'd be surprised if their definitions for each condition were as good as or better than other providers on the market so I'd need a compelling reason to recommend them to a client.
