PAX Wardrobe - fixing to wall

I have put together a PAX wardrobe (150 x 35 x 201cm) with FARVIK glass sliding doors. The doors are heavy which makes the front heavier then the back, so almost fell forward. Although we put in the interior fixture to give the whole wardrobe some weight I am not convince it is safe.

How can I fix it to the wall which is built with plasterboard?

I have skirt board which I do not want remove and carpet flooring.

Once it's full of clothes and shoes it'll be far more stable. In the past I've put something under the front to raise it slightly and give it a very slight backward 'lean'.

If you really need the reassurance of fixing to the wall then an angle bracket such as this should be fixed to the rear top of the wardrobe and then secured to the wall with an appropriate fixing (such as this is if you cannot find a stud/dab behind the plasterboard)

There are many perfectly good plasterboard fixings available on the market. If the wall is dot and dab then just make sure you fix into the block work. It really is not difficult. Use a piece of packing at the top which is the same thickness as the skirting board. I have fitted several PAX wardrobes. They are a nice, well designed piece of kit.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

The pax wardrobes come with a wall fixing I think, there are special plasterboard wall plugs you can buy from homebase to help attatch them.
  • We have just had a PAX wardrobe installed this week by one of Ikea's contractors. They attached a 'bar' of wood the same thickness as the skirting board to the wall and then attached the wardrobe to that. You just need to be aware that you can see it from the side (as you walk in the door of our bedroom the side of our wardrobe is facing you so very noticeable.) We have disguised it by hanging a picture next to the wardrobe.

I originally was going to ask Ikea to put it together but they said that because they weren't insured they would not fix it to the wall. So we attempt it ourself. Kinda of regret it since it taken us four evening and still need to add the lights.

Don't think they or any flat pack company would just come out to fix it against the wall for us.

Has any one got a 35 depth wardrobe? I'm wondering if it is thinner that it is not as stable as the 55 depth PAX.

Can I get wall bracket and screws at Ikea?

    What makes you say that?

The wardrobe has holes in fixed locations for the wall fixings. If the baton is fixed to studs it'll be far stronger than any plasterboard fixing.

most ikea and other flat packs normally come with an adjustable stretcher plate fixing to fix to the top of the wardrobe and to the wall. Don't know if ikea sell them separately or not.
The fixings Ruski has suggested for going into the plaster board , I'd suggest a bracket like these http://www.screwfix.com/p/corner-braces-zinc-plated-103-x-103-x-22mm-pack-of-10/14177 as they're a bit longer and should span the gap between the back and wall since you want to leave the skirting in place.

I bought very heavy duty steel brackets from B&Q. They were outside in the builders yard section and probably 40cm long at least as I mount all Pax wardrobes a good 7cm (at least) from the wall to prevent condensation on the backs (solid wall house). I couldn't find a link online to them but they're ideal IMO.
