Refund at Argos and Currys: will they give me a gift card?

Hi, I am in possess of two reloadable cards with Argos and Currys.
I have to buy some presents for Christmas and I am considering to use these cards.
But what happens in case I decide to ask for refund? Will the refund the money issuing a gift card?
It is not clear from the return policy of bith Argos and Currys if the money will be refunded to the card that was originally used to pay the item or if they will refund on every kind of card, as long as you have proof of purchase.
I had a refund experience at Debenhams and I remember they asked me to use the card I used for the original purchase in order to get the refund.
With other card they wouldn't process the refund. I then found that this was clearly stated in their policy.
But I cannot see the same mentioned in Argos and Currys' policies so I am asking if you have any experience with refunds on these reteilers. Thank you.

You will get the refund in the same manner you paid, so if it's on a gift card you will get the value back to the card. They will not give you cash or put it back to a debit/credit card.

Hi, thanks for the answer. Do you have direct experience with refunds from these two retailers? Cause they don't specify in the policy that they will refund on the card that has been used for the original purchase.

I have direct experience of Argos and yes it is refunded via the method used to pay for it - as has been all but one retailer I have worked for & done business with in the past. (The one retailer notoriously refuses to give refunds period!)

I have direct experience of Currys, and they will only refund to the purchase method, so back to a gift card (or they will refund any purchase method to a gift card too).

99% of retailers will do this for money laundering purposes, and it also means that people can't circumvent the No Refund rule on gift cards.

Dont want to sound cynical but... these aren't reloadable cards where you get a discount on them are they? We can get these through work where, for example, if we pay £100 we get £106 put on the card? so you top up your card with £500, end up with £530 on the card - buy something for that, return it and wanting £530 in cash - thereby making £30 profit?

There are special corporate prices for the gift cards, if you work for certain companies you can get a discount on gift cards for a number of retailers, as explained already you pay £100 for a gift card but you actually get a £106 card so you are getting an extra 6% of whatever you spend.

The shop has no way of knowing if the card you have is one of these corporate cards or not as they usually look the same as a standard gift card.

You will get your refund (if the return meets the terms of their returns policy) by the method you paid, so if you pay by gift card they will refund you to gift card. They will not give you cash for a purchase made by gift card.
