How do I connect this please?

Hi, I have got a sub woofer and two speakers to connect to tv as a small stereo surround system. I have plugged in the two red and and white speaker leads to each end but second set of leads has red and white on one end which goes into sub woofer but on the other end there is a 3rd connection which looks a bit like a headphone type jack and apart from the headphone socket on the tv I cannot find anywhere else for it to plug in. Can anyone advise me as to what I need please? It does fit into the headphone socket ok and there is a buzz that sounds as if it should go there but it just doesnt work.

What is the make and model numbers of the audio equipment?
Was there no instructions supplied with it?
  • Hi,

you may have to go into your sound settings on tv and turn on the audio out/external speakers function.

I think the headphone sized plug (3.5mm) will enable you to use the system system with a ipod, phone, mp3 player etc etc. Just use the red and white phono sockets on your TV.

  • Is it actually a surround/home theatre system or just three random speakers?

Thank you for all your helpful comments. I went into the sound settings on tv and turned up the headphone volume which was on 0. Only thing is, although its working great now the sound is still coming from tv as well which I dont think is meant to happen? I suppose if I turned down the normal volume to 0 in the settings that would stop it but is there another way as only really want to use the surround sound for films etc and seems a bit of a pain having to go into the settings everytime.

Have decided that it would prob be best to plug direct into dvd player but player doesnt have headphone socket, only usb port. Does anyone know if it is possible to get a lead with the red and white phono plugs at one end and usb the other end please?
  • Hi,

when in tv sound settings you should have the option to turn off tv speakers.

Google 'phono usb plug' you will get loads, Amazon or ebay.
