Washing machine emptying into sink and vice versa

Looks like the builder didn't want to drill another hole through the wall, so he reused the old one which is to high.
If you go to screwfix don't buy the the link above it is not a quality product, they do sell Mc alpine products there pick one of them.
I think you will need a new hole to the outside, a bigger job then reconfiguring the mess that you have a the moment.0 -
Then the sink started draining really slowly, so I put down some Mr Muscle Foaming drain cleaner. That didn't help, so I took the trap apart, but there was no blockage.
Raising part of the grey washing machine hose higher than the white waste pipe may also help once the pipe is unblocked.0 -
I thought all modern washing machines and dishwashers had a valve in the outlet hose to prevent this happening.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

Correct - a "one way valve" is fitted to modern machines - but these are not perfect and often let a small amount of water dribble through - they are designed to prevent a "rush" of water entering the machine through the drain.....0 -
Thanks for the help last night. I see there are a few more replies today. Well I went to B&Q and got a couple of bits. So this is what I have now, but unfortunately the water is still coming up through the sink when the washer spins. It is solved by pushing the plug in, but with two teenagers who can't manage to put something in the bin right next to them, doing something as complicated as putting a plug in is asking a lotBirthdays are good for you. Statistics show that the people who have the most live the longest.

That is so much better! Water from the machine will take the easiest way out, which in your case is into the sink. The route outside needs to be the easiest way, is that drain pipe (to the right) horizontal for any great distance? That could be the problem.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

It is about 4ft long before it disappears into the side of the cupboard, and presumably had a 90deg turn at the end, because the outer wall is the wall you can see at the back of the photos. It is angled down slightly, but not very much.Birthdays are good for you. Statistics show that the people who have the most live the longest.

fit a inline Washing Machine Anti Syphon valve to your washing machine outlet hoes and this will stop it0

From what I've read so far it's not going back into the washer now, so you don't need an anti-syphon on that. They clog up really quickly anyway. Just make sure the hose from the washer stays in the position it's in, that is a high loop because water would rather not go uphill if it can help it.Tall, dark & handsome. Nothing to do with your problem, but I see you have a red handled isolation valve just turned off, presumably it was there for a washing machine in the days when they needed both hot and cold feeds. Anyway, it isn't good practice to just leave that in place - if it leaks then you might not know about it till too late. At the very least, fit a washer and end cap/stop end on it. Or ideally, shut HW supply off and fit a compression piece/solder on an end cap.0
