Just opening up a pack of Gala Apples, that I bought about a week ago at the then price of 84p as part of a womble-use shop. I saw someone buying two:eek: of these at the current £1.50 each:eek::eek: on a recent womble. So, there's another saving of £2.16 to the Savvy household - it's not just pence is it, it's pounds?!:money:
Msm now suggesting two of the 1.2Kg apples at 2 for £3, but that's too much for me so I'd now switch to the S/P Apples. In my store today I noticed they are - Gala Apples! I cannot see any difference between them.
Not getting as much for the money as before but they are certainly a less-worse option than the now high priced Gala Apples pack.
Who ever pays more than £1 for a pack of apples? I know I certainly wouldn't - I couldn't afford to pay for apples at much more than that. The last time I paid more than £1 for a pack of apples was years back, when the T Golden Delicious packs (nearly 1kg) were comparing to straight £1 on A's 750g pack. 750g eh? Those were the good days - not like the meanies now of 600g packs. Fruit like this and some of the vegetables (let's class potatoes as vegetables) is really expensive in A. None of the fruit packs compare elsewhere to anywhere favourably, as far as I'm aware, though it may now be King Edward 2.5Kg potatoes vs T at £1 (careful - T now showing OOS on msm). That's still quite expensive though. Meanwhile, fruit packs are often on sub-£1 elsewhere than A (probably not Mr S of course:rotfl:) - A does seem generally more expensive to me on their 'offer' prices and no wonder S want to benchmark to them rather than somewhere much cheaper. They can of course lock into the perception that A is generally cheaper than elsewhere, as with what seems to be almost every commonly-held belief in this area it seems to me to be incorrect!
I had changed my way of shopping, to buy in A even if A not best priced, if using wombles. However, I did make an exception a few days ago. We were finding we were using up APGs so quickly and having to shop again for potatoes very soon indeed. It really showed that we were not getting much for our 'money' (even if in voucher form).
So, I decided (last Sunday) just to buy a 12.5Kg sack of potatoes from M at £2. Even if I paid real cash for that, I figured that at least the wombles better spent on something else and that we would be saving more that way. Rather than finding it was 2x 2.5Kg white potatoes at expensive £3 in A, and having to buy them again next week. Although they were/are £1.25 in S/W, it was so difficult to find any good items, if I just wanted the potatoes, to get the 10% off the £1.25 price - even if spending £1.69, I'd have to be getting so many fillers and paying more on them than any saving on the one item I wanted.
Those 12.5Kg potatoes will last us a lot longer - and even if we only end up using half the bag and the others end up going too rotten before we get to them, we are still saving compared to the cost in Mr A:eek:. I know some were getting them as part of a £5 off £10 spend, but I didn't see any reason to be spending £5 more than I needed so just figured the £2 would be best at that - they always want us to spend more:( - and give us plenty more use of wombles elsewhere that will save more.
As ever, I timed it right - I'm glad I bought the bag on Sunday as, the following day, the price shot up - it doubled to £4!:eek: I'm sure the offer will go back at some point, these seem to me to have been up and down more than, well you know what, in the last few months.
As regards Mr A, 'same prices in every store' eh? I noticed that, in the supermarkets, they now no longer had the 2.5Kg potatoes (not in mine anyway) - there they are now 2Kg packs of white potatoes and at straight £1.35, which work out worse than the mbuy on the 2.5Kg, as well as non-comparable to S/W. So they can still technically claim to have the same prices, whilst they have different pack sizes exclusive to the other stores and quite often don't stock the S/P versions of some products in the supermarkets but instead only the CBY standard ranges (more expensive), and above. Of course the CBY they do stock - although more expensive - is the same price on that as in the main stores.0 -
Thanks to everyone for the help yesterday. I was able to return the crackers with no problems. It was only when I was returning them that I realised I missed the 'free from' bit on the boxes. I felt so stupid. I asked my sister after whether she would have liked gluten free crackers and she said she would probably prefer it to the Udi's lol. Oops! At least i know for next time!
Just a quick question: if for example I get the APG next week and I use that to buy more Udi's and various other items to get it to the APG value and then find that it's the same thing with them not having it in stock and no subs, does that get refunded back to your evoucher wallet, refunded to the card used or lost forever?0 -

It would be fantastic if that beef compared the other way, as if that size could be bought, it would only take 86p to reach the £15 spend. Topside Beef Joint in M has gone up from £7.99/kg to £9.99/kg so losing out even more on the APG (this shop lost vs everywhere, so is a guide as to what to buy in T, S or M) as the £7.99/kg 'offer' in M has switched onto the Silverside. I bet it won't work the other way:rotfl:.
Are some of the £2.97 crisps in M on a More points offer? Need to check what price they are in A (or elsewhere) and, of course, not as good as 45p:rotfl:.
Too expensive to price match to A's £2 on the Dolmio (I told you: they tend to be more expensive on their 'offers' than elsewhere) as these go down to £1.30 elsewhere.
