books about upcycling?
Options
I have a young relative who is very good with crafts, making things etc. She is beginning to learn her way around "upcycling" and how to spend money wisely on craft / DIY materials.
We'd like to get her a xmas gift of a book or 2 on the subject - library not much good (out-of-date or daft books)
There are loads on &ma$on but I can't really tell how useful they are. I'm sure OSers wil know of good ones!
Thanks in advance

Why don't you get her an Amazon voucher. You could give her a card with the code in but maybe print out some pics of choices of books that she might like. Then she can use the voucher/code to choose her own book or get crafty stuff instead.
You might want to make up a bit of a rhyme or something.
The sentiment is lovely but I would rather make my own choices over crafty stuff.
We wish you a Merry Christmas
And know you delight in craft and making beautiful things.
So many choices - too many for us
We hope that this voucher, instead joy brings.
Bit rubbish but you get the idea.:oDe cluttering Konvert.Getting there

The book people are very good and well priced. There are always some crafty type books in.
Personal recommendations are the Kirstie Allsopp books for craft projects and ideas, Cath Kidston books are nice to look at and Annie Sloan books for inspiring ideas to up cycle furniture.:T Looking forward to the future :T0 -
I second The Book People for reduced price crafty books. Also, you know that you can order books from the library? If another library in the area has then they can do an inter library lend, if not you are free to suggest new purchases0

Thank you, yes. I almost put in the first post that I have browsed the library & website; however, cut backs mean that a lot of books are out-of-date (and annoyingly, a lot are "restricted loan") and these are the kind of books that don't stay in print.
And I will add that if you are still in an area where they will buy new books then you are lucky!
Of course, our library still buys a few new books, but almost none on customer request unless there are a large number! A few of us recently put a requests for a book by a local author, and it was the latter that persuaded the service to buy it.
I had forgotten about the Book People - I can't access them through workplace any longer, but I know you can order quite a lot online, so am off to look.0 -
I've moved this to our crafting board to see if you get any useful suggestions here

Thanks - I've just popped back on to thank those who mentioned The Book People. I have just got a huge order from them - amazing value - and am so glad to be re-acquainted with them.
and as a plus: they get a decent rating from Ethical Consumer0
