I have received the Mbna card one month ago. I haven't activated it.
Will they eventually close the account or should I activate the card and hope that they will close the account if I don't use it?

Why don't you close the account, if you have no intention of using it?0

It would be quicker if you phoned them up and cancelled the account.0

Just ring them up, if you haven't used the account for 30 days you can cancel using their horrible automated phone system.0

So, is : "no, they would not close the account themselves if you do not activate the account or activate it and not use your card" the answer to my question then?
Will they leave the account open forever? Why don't you close the account, if you have no intention of using it?0 -
Because I have decided
I'd still recommend phoning MBNA to cancel. They were very nice when I phoned to cancel my Amazon->MBNA transferred account.0 -
Sorry I don't know but I would say there is a good chance that if you don't use it or activate it they will assume it's been lost in the post and cancel it.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0

Because I have decided to possibly do it another way, as time is not of the essence.
Is this a secret way of improving your credit score by 6%?0 -
I knew a guy who got a credit card when he applied for a student current account. He never activated the card, said he didn't want it and it'd been automatically applied for with the bank account. Eventually they phoned him up and asked if he'd received the card. He said he didn't want it and they closed it.
That wasn't MBNA (not sure who it was though) but they may do something similar. You could wait and find out, having a line of credit that's useless to you, if that makes you happy. Or you could phone their 0800 number (free from a landline) and have a 2 minute conversation with them. It probably took longer to start this thread than it would have taken to close the account.
FWIW I closed mine recently and there's no hard-sell or trying to convince you to stay; they just close your account.0 -
You don't even need to call, you can send them a secure message. Thats how I closed mine and its showing on my credit report as closed now.0
