cancelling energy supplier switch

Hi savers,
Was switching to eon with the energy club, but as the switch would not be complete in time to get the warm home discount I have cancelled the switch so I should still get it with my current supplier.
Now my question. How long does it take to cancel a switch? Both the energy club and my current supplier (Scottish power) can't do anything (I want to switch tarrif) until the exist switch has been completely removed.
Has anyone cancelled a switch before?
What happened?
Thanks
Matt

From OFGEM's website:
Cooling off period
A ‘cooling off’ period allows a customer to change their mind, terminate their new contract and go back to their original supplier. New regulations, that come into force in June 2014, provide a statutory 14-day cooling period for domestic consumers.
At the moment, it takes around five weeks for suppliers to complete a switch. This incorporates the two week cooling off period upfront and then is followed by a three week period where the actual switch takes place. Following Government’s challenge to industry to speed this up, Ofgem has worked with industry and agreed voluntary changes to their processes to reduce this to two and a half weeks by the end of this year. This includes the two week cooling off period upfront, and then the switch will complete by the end of the third day.0 -
If you are cancelling a switch, I'd personally do it in writing and send it by recorded delivery unless you are close to the end of the 14 days cooling off period.
Last time I tried to cancel a switch I did it by phone and it wasn't actioned and my supply was still switched0 -
Thanks Dave
Will check up with them.0 -
EON told me they weren't honouring the switch too late to cancel.
Do you know which is the next cheapest/warm home discount electricity provider to switch to?
Thanks!0 -

Hi Matt,
I thought I would give some advice from this side:)
We have a 14days “cooling off period” that gives you time to change your mind.
As long as you’re within the 14days the cancellation will happen straight away, your current supplier wouldn’t even know you wanted to go.
If you’re over the 14days days, then you’ll need to wait until the switch has completed, then your old supplier will need to take your supply back.
These terms might be slightly different with the Energy Club, it’ll be best if you contact them and they’ll be able to point you in the right direction.
I hope this helps and you get it sorted.
