Ebay refunded my buyer out of their own pocket :)

I sold something for £14 and the buyer wasnt happy with it, I agreed to refund him if he sent it back. He was awkward and didnt want to send it back, he wanted to keep it. But he still pushed for a refund.

I fought teeth and nail, I know ebay always sides with the buyer, but I would not refund him if he was keeping it, just send it back to me and then I will refund you.

Now at the end of it all, ebay said this to me.........

"Hello

A case has been opened because the buyer has an issue with an item purchased from you. We reviewed the case and have decided to issue the buyer a refund of £14.00 without any impact to you. The refund includes the purchase price plus original postage & packaging.

This case is now closed. You aren't required to reimburse the buyer or eBay and this case will not be counted in your seller performance evaluation.

You can view the details of the case in the Resolution Centre."

Amazing. So they are going to pay my buyer, and it wont affect me?

I have had this happen a couple of times. Both times it was when the buyer was unhappy with the item, I offered to refund only if they returned it. They refused to return. Both times I was the one who escalated the case to Ebay. One time it was only £8 and the other £45. Personally I have found that if you try and resolve the issue with the customer, Ebay are a lot kinder to you.
