It is obviously the former home of old people and the d!cor is sixties at the latest, so there's bound to be lots needing attention, at some cost.

My mother-in-law's 3 bed terrace, which was larger than that and a more modern kitchen (admittedly in the Midlands) only sold for £50,000, at auction, 5 years ago.

I'm with the OP I love it and see the potential however you will not get a mortgage on it. Try and move on. I have been here and bought the T-Shirt (sadly not the houses) but eventually found my perfect dream victorian house.
  • Has the square footage been mentioned?

Surely that's not 3200 odd sq foot of space????

    In a terrace house:rotfl:

    Stunning!
If you have the money to do it up to modern standards, great.
Or live in it and do it up slow time.
If I had not long ago purchased a property, you would have just lost this one.
With Portsmouth council you would get a month off the council tax.
    I am a LandLord,(under review) so there!:p

Sadly they could not say what the value or extent of work the mortgage retention was for.

Perhaps better suited to a cash buyer then.

    Hi Annie,

If this house had no structual problems and it was internal rewire, heating, kitchen, bathroom, decoration etc I would be wanting it nearer to 100k than 125k because for that lot its going to costs you 20-40k.having said that a 3 bed went for 170k in Jan so it could be a nice little buy. What I would be worrying about is the other buyer dropping out because of the full retention.
I would guess that you will not get a mortgage on it but if you wanted to try what about going for a mortgage which has free legals and valuation, not getting your hopes up and that way you will not lose out if it comes back a no and you have lost nothing

Why isn't there a picture of the bathroom and there is no size given for bedroom 3? I would want to know those before even setting foot in the street!
Personally I would dismiss this out of hand as there is no off road parking (I don't drive) it is something you will neverbe able to change and lugging heavy shopping from whereever you can find to park will be a PITA. Still its horses for courses I suppose.
Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)

Some of the pictures look as if there may be a damp problem. The pictures don't show much of the outside, but I'd be tempted to have a drive past. Wouldn't surprise me if you need to put on a new roof, fix loads of crumbling brickwork/pointing, strip the plaster off inside, put in new kitchen and bathroom, rewire, replumb, new central heating.

If you can't afford those sorts of things in addition to the purchase price then don't look - leave it to the builders and BTL brigade!
  • What have you fallen in love with exactly? I suppose it might have potential but right now it looks like a s**thole.

Full retention to me suggests some serious structural or damp problems, but I'm no expert. At the very least the place needs gutting and I suspect you'll find redecorating to be the least of your concerns. It also needs reconfiguring upstairs to turn it into a proper 3 bed house.

To answer your question: I wouldn't have even clicked on the listing! I think it's sad that people neglect properties to such an extent they end up looking like that.

Must admit I tend to go along with that.

When you said you'd virtually fallen in love with it, I clicked and expected to see something in pretty good order and with a bit of "character".

One quick look revealed a house I would instantly scroll straight past and that just looks like one HECK of a lot of work to me. A moneypit...(and that's from someone who has thrown a load of money at the house I recently bought ...and not finished yet.....) but at least it had potential...which is more than this one has...

    Pass...
