Hi
I live with my partner who receives DLA MRC and LRM. I have just been awarded PIP standard rate for both components and we currently receive ESA couples rate. I claim Carers Allowance.
The questions are:
Do I need to inform ESA or will PIP have done that?
Would it be better if I cancel Carers or if she claims Carers?
What about disability premiums?
I think what I'm asking is how to go about things for the best outcome financially. Anyone else in this situation?

Hi, first of all no you don't need to inform ESA of your award, PIP will have already done that.
You don't say if you're in a group for ESA either WRAG or Support Group. If you are then because you both receive PIP/DLA you'll be able to claim Severe Disability Premium (SDP) but to be able to claim this will have to stop claiming Carers Allowance because you can not claim both. You have to be in either one of the groups to be able to claim SDP. If you're not then you can both claim carers allowance for each other. It's all really complicated to be honest.0 -
Hi Poppy
Thanks for the reply. We are in WRAG group. I'll cancel the carers claim on Monday and apply for SDP.
Once again many thanks0 -
I would tell the ESA about your PIP award, for some reason my award never showed up on the system they see it on and I had to send them evidence of my award. I did point out the lunacy of two DWP departments not being able to communicate with each other and me having to act as the piggy in the middle.........0

I believe you'll both be able to claim SDP because you both claim DLA/PIP.78fromrogers wrote: »Hi Poppy
