efficient way of printing postage labels ?

I'm a very small scale seller, so up until now have been printing off each postage label out on a single piece of A4 paper, cutting & taping it to an envelope.

I'm finding that my sales are gradually creeping upward, and it would be great if I could save a bit of time by reducing the handling time of the postage. I'm assuming that there must be a way of doing this, do you export your postage label data somewhere & use a label maker ?

Any guidance would be much appreciated :)

There are quite a few ways of doing it. You can use sheets that have the label window on to save on cutting. Then there are several programs available to download, from free to pay that print labels off.
I go back and forward between a few methods. The sheets with labels (you can buy on Ebay and Amazon) have been about the most time saving and cost effective for me, I know others will disagree and consider them too expensive.

I use a thermal label printer. They're expensive, each label costs around 1p, but the convenience factor is massive.
  • Same for me, I use self adhesive 4 labels per A4 sheet.

Only problem is with Hermes printing, if I print one or two labels on the sheet, due to orientation of print I can't use the other two another time.

Larger labels are A5 so I can always turn a half used label sheet around and use the other side.

I've been thinking about buying a cheap label printer tbh, seems like the next step.

    thanks for the replies.

So, can you print out postage labels directly from EBay postage onto self adhesive labels ? Would it still be the one at a time, or is there a program that people find the best to export with ?

I use Aimco Software to harvest my orders, I don't use it for label printing although it does that. I have a Zebra thermal printer and use RM free labels and a software program to import them into RMDMO for processing.

RM do free labels ? I have an OBA so would I be able to get them ?

Microsoft Publisher will let you lay out A4 sheets of all sorts of sizes of branded labels and business cards. If you haven't got Publisher, use a free library computer & email the sheet to yourself as a PDF to print at home. Publisher will add crop marks ready for you to trim.

I'm wary of printing on sheets of gummed labels - horror stories about them coming off inside your printer - but I can see the attraction for larger scale mailers. For now, I'd rather use plain paper & glue.
  • Well I jumped in and bought a used label printer........

    Zebra LP2844, USB.....100mm x 150mm labels, easy peasy.

Such a lot easier than the 4 per page A4 set up I had

Works with Hermes, Despatchbay, Linnworks, no waste, definitely a step forward.

Be nice to have another for printing smaller address labels too - maybe for the future :)
  • I would normally tell people to use the back of a letter from a DCA clown.
