DFS Sofa Cancellation

Hi,

I am not sure if this is in the right forum or if anyone can even help but thought I would give it a go.

2 weeks ago today me and my partner ordered a new sofa on finance with DFS, however the house we were supposed to move into today fell through yesterday. We are both living with parents therefore have no where we can even put this sofa when it is delivered and will not have anywhere for the foreseeable.

DFS have informed us we cannot cancel as the sofa has already been made and is awaiting shipping.

Do we have any rights to be able to cancel this order?

Did your contract have anything in it that said the sale was subject to your house deal going through? If not, then no you have no rights to cancel the contract.

Well technically you can cancel it, but that would put you in breach of contract so they will be able to recover their losses from you. Given that they have already made the sofa and just need to ship it to you, their losses will probably be the full price you paid anyway.

Nope, we had no idea that this would happen so nothing was put in the contract with them. I didn't think we would have any rights if I am honest just wanted to double check.
