  • The speed rating should be a minimum of what the car came with originally to keep the insurers happy.

Personally I would stick to similar patterns on the same axle so it doesn't affect the handling.

How much tread is on the other tyre? If it's low, it may be worth changing both.
  • You can mix tread patterns although some will not recomendation it and you are best to replace tyres in pairs. You should match the speed ratings set by the manufacturer.

Tread on the other tyre is good, it doesnt need replacing but im thinking it may be best to change both fronts.
At £75 a corner for the cheepest budgets its a bit hard on the wallet although nothing I didnt accept when I baught the car.

If they are the same size, it doesn't matter about the make or tread pattern, it is legal. Speed ratings can be varied too as long as they are both at or above the manufacturers recommendation.
Nowadays though you may find interesting complications. A neighbour last year had a puncture in his E320, annoyingly as he had just fitted a new set of winters, so put on his well worn standard spare. After running about for a couple of days waiting for a replacement winter tyre to go on, his abs light was on, the speedo was temperamental and the cruise control didn't work. All magically cured when the tyre was replaced. Sometimes the ecus can be a little bit too clever for their own good.

Those tyres sound like something a bit sporty, can you stretch to pay for better than budget?

  • That is a good price blackcircles are £141 fitted.

It's the place I got my winter tyres from last summer, so I can vouch for them.

What about mixing standard and XL (Extra Load) tyres on the same axle?

Not particually sporty, Vauxhall Vectra SRi, but it has the XP pack which includes 19"'s

Are Kumhos considerd a good choice ? Ive been quoted £133.20 fitted at the local tyre place but id be up for doing both at £86 a corner if they are a reasonable tyer.
