Aldi - charge for bags not used or put down on conveyor belt

As people have said, it's a high pressure environment working on a till in Aldi, you have to have your wits about you, and generally the staff do, I'd like to see how the majority of till staff from other supermarkets would cope coming from tills which do it all the work for them.
The tills in our Aldi are the same as in other supermarkets - the staff scan the item in just the same way. What's the extra pressure?0 -
I think you'll find the the tills aren't the same, they look the same... You couldn't put stuff through a regular till at the same speed, because it allows longer between items. Try putting stuff through a self service checkout at the same speed for example. It doesn't work.
There are lots of factors, the staff are basically expected to deal with most of the problems themselves, so if anything doesn't scan etc, they go away and find the correct code. Anything that is damaged on the belt, the till operator goes and replaces it, they also handle all the refunds, replacements etc
And there is the fact that a lot of stuff isn't barcoded, so the staff need to remember all the relevant codes. Watch how often more than one item is pulled through the scanner at once, because the staff have entered the codes previously when there was a spare second.
Its expected that everything goes through quickly and smoothly, and the tills don't calculate the change either, which I notice even Lidl's do.
I think a lot of people don't really appreciate the standard required from Aldi staff, and they aren't all good, I've been in stores where members of staff are not as efficient as I'd expect, but to go back to the original topic, I'm pretty certain none of them are trying to sneak carrier bag charges onto each persons shopping.0 -
Bag was not with my shopping nor I think the customer before. I remember seeing it near the scanner. The male assistant must have been management as he signed-off the refund himself after claiming 'I' had put it down.
I would suggest you write to your MP, and Watchdog.
Disgusting foreign supermarkets, coming over here and stealing our small change.0 -
Doesn't that defeat the point of me taking my own bag?!The quickest solution is to then just take a bag rather than fuss about demanding a refund.
I asked for a refund on principle - why should I be forced to pay for something I did not pick-up nor use, because it is the 'quickest solution' for Aldi.
I posted said message to check whether this was a common occurrence, and I have to say there was something about the male assistance attitude and body language which made me question whether it was a one off or a mistake.Free thinker.:cool:0 -

I shop in aldi at least twice a month and have done since they first opened here about 6 yrs ago and have never ever had a mistake on my receipt-and I am obsessive about checking lol.
But I have seen post from others who have had issues, and also seen just as many posts if not more from people overcharged at Mr T or Mr A. I have had a number of overcharging issues at Mr T and I don't go in that often.
So this clearly is not a nationwide issue and is simply an issue associated with modern tills and various store to store, brand to brand.

Sheesh. Bully for you for absolutely never using plastic bags. You appear to be missing the point.Doesn't that defeat the point of me taking my own bag?!
