Coming back from USA - Tobacco in pocket

I'm flying back to the UK from the USA at the weekend and have 750ml of spirits which as far as I understand means I can't carry tobacco (rolling) without going over the customs limit.
However, am I allowed to carry an open packet of rolling tobacco in my jacket pocket?

The tobacco allowance is separate to the alcohol allowance. so you can bring both.

But where and how you carry it is immaterial, you are still bringing it into the country no matter whether it's in your suitcase or your pocketEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endQuidquid Latine dictum sit altum videtur0 -

The only reason it wasn't a problem is because you weren't caught, failing to declare and smuggling can both have serious repercussions, If you had been detected you'd be lucky to get away with Customs only seizing all of your tobacco

If you are OTT on anything, or if in doubt, declare it.
I often bring in close to twice the alcohol limit (coming from Trinidad I often get asked for different types of Angostura rum) and I always declare the extra bottle.
I must have done this a dozen times now and as yet, they have never charged me any duty.
One bottle I normally bring back costs about £40 which is a 1 litre bottle and the other one is £12. (0.75 litre) If they wanted to charge me duty, I would simply ask them to charge me on the £12 bottle and the duty payable for this would be £8.46.
For this small sum of money, it's hardly worth their while doing all of the required paperwork.0
