PAYG mobile for £9, the cheapest I've seen yet!

29 July 2007

What's the deal?

With a Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) mobile you simply get the phone and add credit before you need to use it. Currently they're available for just £9 (locked to the Orange network) in store at Asda; the cheapest I've ever seen.

How to get it

65,000 were available across all Asda stores last Thursday, but this stock is virtually gone so an additional 5,000 are being sent to selected stores (Asda supercentres) on Wednesday 1 August, but you'll need to be quick to get one.

The following store will be receiving extra stock: Boldon, Bridge of Dee, Cardiff, Coventry, Derby, Eastgate, Eastlands, Eastleigh, Edinburgh, Ellesmere Port, Great Bridge, Havant, Haydon, Huyton, Livingston, Milton Keynes, Minworth, Patchway, Pudsey, Queensferry, Sheffield, Tamworth, Trafford Park, Watford and Wigan.

Nice, although arguably less of a bargain than the T-Mobile deal from CPW:

An F3 for -£0.05 (when bought with £10 airtime). I'd buy one if I didn't think the user interface sucked.

It appears to have been removed from the CPW site now - perhaps it was a mistake.

That's what bugs me about this forum. People are never grateful for the bargains that other folk tell them of. That post sums it up perfectly on two fronts.
    1. I can find better than you.
    2. Even when I get it for nowt, it's not good enough.

Why, if the deal wasn't for you, did you feel you had to add your moaning two bob's worth?

Thanks to the original poster. May get one as a back up for work.

Sorry Bluey9 - I have to disagree, If someone can beat the op's offer then its better for all of us.

I remember this offer being posted last week.

Firstly, I wasn't moaning - I was just saying it's not for me. The first word of my reply was "Nice", showing appreciation of the original post. Secondly, pointing out that something posted here is available cheaper elsewhere is a valid use of this forum, and indeed, may have helped someone save a few quid (before CPW took the offer down).

How is it moaning if the post starts off "Nice ...? and I think people should be allowed to post cheaper/better deals on 'Moneysavingexpert'.

Admittedly there are people who tend to sneer at some of the deals on here and they should be 'shot down', but I thought this reply was quite measured.

You can always post on 'Shop but don't drop' if you're not sure it's a grabbit.

Just to say thank you to all posters of this phone offer. I have ordered a CPW one on T mobile as a spare phone as during the school holidays the children want to go swimming or to the beach and I prefer them not to take a hgih end contract phone with them. This little cheappie will be ideal to carry as an emergency contact.

It cost me £8.95 (before Quidco) and the bill mentioned a £10 top up, but the invoice bit showed a total price of £8.95, so I'm not sure how they work the extra £10, but I'll wait and see.
