speeding ticket from unmarked car in road works.

Bit of a long shot this, but is there a way around a speeding ticket?
55 in a roadworks 40, going with the flow of traffic but he decided to stop me
on the 421 just outside Bedford.
Ive heard of a few things such as asking for the speed gun calibration certificate and the officers training certificate but not sure if any of this will work, I've heard you can not sign the form that comes through the post but i signed one in the car so I'm not sure if i have any options.

All that man-in-the-pub advice is just that, worthless. As you were stopped, there is no Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP) sent in the post. If there were, not signing it would be very bad (Scotland excepted), and you'd end up with being prosecuted for Failing to Furnish the name of the driver (6 points, £500+ fine and expensive insurance), so be thankful you're not going down that route. If you're lucky, you'll get an offer of £100 & 3 points. If you want to start questioning things, you have to go Not Guilty, have your day in court, lose, and it'll cost you a whole lot more.0

ok thanks for that, the only reason i asked is this will make 9 points so any slip from now on and bang goes my license, I know its my fault but those pesky road side jobs got me twice within two weeks only a year ago for just over the 30 mph limits, you do get to feel its just a money making scheme for the government which is quite sad

So that's nearly 50% higher than the posted speed limit that's put there for the safety of the road workers and other drivers.davieboy33 wrote: »going with the flow of traffic but he decided to stop me
'He' can't stop every idiot at once, can he?davieboy33 wrote: »this will make 9 points so any slip from now on and bang goes my license
Didn't you learn anything from getting the previous 6 points? 15mph over the limit is just asking for trouble. Perhaps a few weeks on public transport might help with your 'education'.
I suggest you take a long hard think about how you drive. It's not a race, it's about getting from A to B safely. Just build in some extra time for your journey and you'll find the 'need' to rush disappears. You'll arrive less stressed, and with no more points on your license.:j0 -
9 points - perhaps you need to drive slower and obey the rules of the road . There are major road works near me and in the year or so they have been there over 10,000 folk have been caught speeding.

This is why I like cruise control ... get to the target speed and set it; no need to fear exceeding the limit.

haha wow you know so much about me in the little bit of a post i put here

All the traffic was slowing down as we had all just entered the 40 zone for starters,
All the Idiots??? remind yourself of that next time you look at your speedo when you are in a 30 and doing 35, after all by the way you look at things there is no grey area which means you are breaking the law or you are not, if you have never been going a little to fast (ever) then .. wow.. model citizen you are, however i will just use the same ballpark i know you from how you have posted here and say you are a hypocritical Troll
enjoy your evening scrolling

This, 1000 times!!
The anti-speeding posts made in this thread are not trolling - they are probably expressing those views with good reason! Mind you, those who use phones while driving are a lot worse in my book, as that is completely wilful behaviour, unlike unwittingly letting your speed creep up.
That said, I have been in your situation (ok, maybe not the 55 in a 40 one..) but certainly carried 6 points for a couple of years for two marginal speeding offences when I was keeping my eyes on the road and not the speedo, so I do have a certain amount of sympathy.
Also - A good tip I was given by a traffic cop was to use your gears to help limit your speed. Don't go over 3rd gear in a 30 limit and not over 4th gear in a 40 limit and it will go a very long way to keeping you honest.Bournemouth - home of the Mighty Cherries0 -
i don't mind the anti speeding posts, i posted this knowing it would not sit to comfy with everyone, i appreciate it was my fault as i expressed to the officer, he told me that everyone was speeding but he had to pick someone, i was just the unlucky number, it is what it is but after getting such great advice here for a friend and a parking ticket i thought i would chance my arm so to speak.
I agree about the phone by the way, i was the first medical person on scene when a girl went under a lorry in a mini when i was based in Cyprus. wasn't pretty and she never survived.0 -

I said something similar to the missus when she needed to use my car for work the other day - the first time she had driven it. I said "Just think 'Up to' ... up to 10 is 1st, up to 20 is 2nd, up to 30 is 3rd, etc. and you'll never be in the wrong gear".

You need to slow down to 40 before the speed restriction signs. I suggest you reacquaint yourself with the highway code.davieboy33 wrote: »by the way you look at things there is no grey area which means you are breaking the law or you are not,
Correct. Or do you think that the roadworkers would only be a little bit dead if, god forbid, your speeding caused a crash and the wreckage hit one of them?davieboy33 wrote: »you are a hypocritical Troll

hypocritical? In the last 10 years my business has required me to drive in excess of 750,000 miles in the UK and Europe. My license is clean, I've been involved in no collisions. I, and the other people that drive my vehicles, 'drive to arrive'. We obey the rules, show courtesy to other road users and generally encounter very few problems because of this attitude.
scrolling? I assume you mean trolling.
That's an outrageous accusation but not surprising coming from someone caught breaking the law and then looking for ways to avoid the consequences.davieboy33 wrote: »i was the first medical person on scene when a girl went under a lorry in a mini when i was based in Cyprus. wasn't pretty and she never survived.
Sounds horrendous. And yet you still think it's OK to speed near people working on the road. Staggering.
Please show more respect for other people and don't gamble with their lives.:j0
