Does anyone have recommendations for a good hotel in the Lake Garda region? We are looking to fly into Verona and hire a car to tour as well. Smaller rather than large spa type

Drove to Desenzano back in the early nineties, plenty of reasonably priced hotels with parking. Pretty sure you're an experienced traveller but we believed that Half pension was half board instead of B&B and eat in the hotel every night, what a shock when the final bill arrived. Nice area with loads of promenading Italians

Lovely hotels in Malcesine which has a castle & lots of nice bars, restaurants etc around the harbour.

Another vote for Malcesine. I thought it was the best of all the lakeside towns, and we visited a few. The Capri Hotel was where we stayed, and it was perfect, with fantastic food, and a good location for views of the lake. The reviews on Tripadvisor say it all.

Garda (not Riva Del Garda) and Malcasine would be my favorites as they have character and faily central to visit other places. We stayed at the hotel Astoria in Garda . Right on the lake side and in town, middle of the road 3 star good for ferry, buses, bars and restuants. Would return. Riva Del Garda Is good but up one end
