Help calculate my bill
Hi guys, I have not been billed by my provider First Utility since November 2013 and I have emailed them many times through the year asking them to give a update.
Behold today I got the bill and it was £2,231.83 which has taken into account my monthly DD which totalled at £1,620 so the actual bill was £3851.83!!!
I don't live in a mansion but a two story semi detached Victorian house. The bills are usually around £2,300 mark which is still a lot.
Can anyone work out how much I should have been billed or if this is correct?
I am on the iSave Fixed v10 January 2016 Dual Fuel which was the best deal for me at the time.
Electricity is 13.07 per kWh and Standing charges are 26.13p per day.
Gas is 3.90 per kWh and Standing charges are 26.13p per day.
Meter reading given on 21 Nov 2013 E=71089, G=25827
Current reading given on 20 Nov 2013 E=81627, G=28262
I calculated Units used from 21.11.2013-20.11.2014 = E 10538, G 2435. Days from 21.11.2013-20.11.2014 = 364 days.
I hope this helps.

Is your gas meter metric or imperial? It will say on either the meter or the bill (m3 or ft3)0

Hi Bluebirdman
Gas meter says m3. Cant see anything on electric meter.0 -
http://www.ukpower.co.uk/home_energy/gas_meter_readings
OK so:
Gas - 2435 meter units = 27183 KWh
* £0.039 = £1060 PLUS SCharge £95.11 = £1155
Elec - (all elec meter directly measure KWh)
10538 KWh * £0.1307 = £1377 PLUS SCharge £95.11 = £1472
Sub Total = £2627
Add VAT @ 5%
£2758.
That's what your usage in the last 364 days should cost (there will be a slight variance depending on the calorific value of gas in your area, but not much).
I don't know where your figure of £3.8k has come from.
You're using double the national average gas, and three times the average electricity, which is a hell of a lot in a 2 story semi.0 -
£3,851 doesn't compute
Elec 10,538 units @ 13.07p is £1,377 + SC of 26.13p over 364 days is £95.11 + 5% VAT of £73.62 ...... Total £1,546.63
Gas ( Metric meter) 2435 Meter units converts to appx 27,272 Kwh
27272 Kwh @ 3.9p = £1,063.08 + SC of 26.13p over 364 days = £95.11 + 5% VAT of £57.91.........Total £1,216.10
Grand total for both fuels £2,762.73
When taking into account your Direct debit payments total of £1,620 , the bill should show an amount owing of £1,142.73
First Utilities reputation is not good, in fact it's initials could be taken as a comment on it's levels of custmomer service - If FU will not re-issue a correct bill or pursue you for payment on the current one, your best bet is to take the bill to your local Citizens Advice office0 -
Hi guys, thanks for your help, I will call them up now and go through the figures with them.
Unit price and standing charges include VAT as stated on my bill and tariff.
Can I ask how you reached the gas KWh figure as I tried 2435*2.83*1.022640*39.3/3.6 but do not get a figure begining with 27XXX.
Thanks0 -
You have a metric meter, you don't need to multiply by 2.830

ok thank you so much, both of you! You have saved me nearly a grand.0
