Help! Money put into account.

Hello,

1st post here, long time lurker!

Yesterday, the joint account (TSB) that I have with my o/h received a payment of c.£530

It was a Bank Giro Credit and was named CTREFUND.

Neither myself, or my partner have a clue what it is for. Called the bank to find out where it had came from and they were not any help, the only thing they said was that is was paid into the account under both of our names.

The account is used for household D/D, mortgage, council tax etc.

A quick google brings up corporation tax (CT) however neither myself or partner run our own business so would not be that.

Do any of you on here have any idea what it may be??

I was on the phone to the bank for over 20 mins last night only to be told they couldnt tell where it had come from! I really do not want to have to go through that again, they must have an audit trail to work out where payments come from??

Any help/advice appreciated.

Council Tax ? Have you checked with them ?

Otherwise , wait and see if the money is taken back (which it will be if it is a mistake) ....do not spend it until you are certain it is rightfully yours.

Not them, already contacted and they said it would have the council ref on the transaction.

Obviously the money will not be spent but was hoping to at least find out where it came from!

    Thanks.

Giro credit is paper slip instructing their bank to credit your bank account, the bank should surely have info on the sender/company name. Maybe call and try again

Yesterday I know some people received this years cold weather payments from the Department of Work & Pensions and there's the mention of Giro on those transactions. Are you entitled to that by any chance?

I got my WFA yesterday and it shows my NI number on the Bank Giro Credit .
  • All sorted now. It was an error by the council.

    Thanks for the input.
