I've just moved house and i contacted british gas for a breakdown cover for the central heating...the engineer came and checked the boiler and said that they cant cover it because it is over 20 years old and need replacement >:(. Now im thinking of installing a combi. boiler but i understand that british gas are expensive...any recommendations please and what should i be looking for :-/

What make is your boiler? It's just that my Ideal boiler is 27 years old and British Gas seem more then willing to keep on resurrecting it and keep it on life support.

27 years!!!! :o.I have to congratulate you. mine is Glowwarm and i have inherited it from the previous owner of the house who apparently had it serviced by british gas 6 months ago but ignored their advice to change it (he knew he was selling >:(). British gas said they are happy to service it once a year but will not cover its breakdown.

They normally decline cover if there are too few parts available for it.

With mine there are still enough parts around for them to get it back going ie, rubber bands, yoghurt pots and loo rolls.
