My new desktop has developed a fault and needs to be returned. As I've just put the office 2010 package on it, I'm wondering what happens if they replace rather than repair? I'm not sure how these things work, but if it's already installed on the computer I send back and they replace it I'm not going to be able to reinstall in on the new computer am I? Should I uninstall prior to returning? Can anyone advise?
Thanks

You should have an activation key for Office. In which case uninstall before returning the PC and reinstall on the replacement when you get it.
Depends what the fault is but usually they repair rather than replace. Unless the hard drive is faulty or they suspect a software fault then they probably won't wipe it but uninstall first to be sure. Depending on what you have done so far with the PC you might not want to send it back with a hard drive full of your personal information!0 -
Uninstall Office before the computer goes away.
When you get it back, it may well re-install using the same product key. It depends what (if any) hardware was changed to effect the repair. If the product key is not accepted, you may have to phone Microsoft and explain the situation. I believe they should sort it out for you, but don't have first-hand experience of that.
I have just re-installed Office 2010 on a computer that was wiped and given a clean OS install, with no problem using the existing product key, although no hardware was changed.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards.
