I am about change my sim contract and wish to know how I can save the numbers on my sim to my phone to avoid having to re enter each number of friends and relatives

Are you sure that your contacts are actually on the SIM. Very few phones store contacts on the SIM by default now due to the very limited amount of info that can be stored. They are usually stored on the phone itself.0

Could you not just use a SIM backup device?
That way, you will still have a copy of your contacts, if the phone is lost/stolen/wrecked.0 -
If you enable Cloud sync for Contacts on your iPhone, you can re-sync them all with your next iPhone or save all contacts onto a vCard online.
If you go Android there are several simple ways to import that vCard list back into your new phone.0
