  • I've had a capital one card for 7 months now and got a letter to say the interest was reducing at the 6 month mark. They only gave me a limit of £200 though. Been using it and paying it off each month and I've just been accepted for a Halifax credit card with 16 months 0% on purchases and a limit of £750 :)
    Debt FREE thanks to YNAB

Had a Capital One Progress for 2 years. Interest rate is down to about 19% (I think).
Ran the account (and everything else on my CRF) perfectly within that time.
No credit limit increases though and after doing some searches it would appear they don't offer them on the Progress card - unless anyone else has had one ?

I've got a Barclaycard Platinum now so once my 5/6 year old defaults drop off I'll pick up another non-sub-prime card as a spare and ditch the Capital One card.

Is a Capital One credit card worth having?

Yes if you like free money (Cap One Classic Extra).

But that's "For people with an average to good credit rating "

OP has already explained they are attempting to build a credit history, so would probably not be eligible at this time for such "free money".

I can earn possibly almost double as much "free money" with my Barclaycard account (and in any event, at least as much less the possible £10 bonus) ... and I have ample more opportunity to earn it as I am not constrained by the low credit limits of the particular Cap1 card you refer to.

MSE still advertise it as a card for those with a poor history! I guess Cap One either changed the criteria, or Cap one and MSE have different ideas about what constitutes a poor credit history.
