Thursday 20 November - What small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important :money:

Morning Ziggy and everyone who comes along later :)

    For me today:
Breakfast (in fact all meals) from stores Done
    Check banks Done

Colour hair using a product I already have Done

    Clean bath Done

Washing, hopefully it won't rain so that I can at least start it off drying on the line :)Well, it is drier than when I put it out. Will finish off on the airer

Give the chickens some new straw as their run is muddy Done

NSD for me - not sure about OH though. He has decided he will survive after all (he has a cold) and is heading off to town. He needs a new watch strap. Wonder if he will just buy that?? He just bought the watch strap and a couple of fancy loaves of bread. One is now in the freezer

Go to sales unit later to tidy up and see if any restocking is needed. I will take a few bits with me in case :) If it is fine I will walk down. If I have sold loads and need to drastically restock, I will drive down later safe in the knowledge that the profits will pay for the fuel :rotfl: Well, a few things have gone but no major restocking needed, so no fuel used

Make pies later - one game using the pie filling I prepared yesterday, and one using rhubarb from the freezer. Done, the game one was yummy, and I am just about to have a piece of the rhubarb one - just to try it out you understand :D

Well, the kettle is boiling on the woodburner, so I think I will have coffee to go with my rhubarb pie :D

Hope everyone has a nice day :)

    Afternoon Campers,
Not a very exciting day today, but am keeping the faith with the money saving:
*Dried the last of this week's laundry on the heated airer overnight on cheap tariff.
*Switched iron off to press final garment.
*Dinner as per meal plans - chicken dopiaza which I cooked last time I had one of my big cook-up days for the freezer.
*Lunch from stores including a bag of crisps from the free 6-pack I was sent to test via a Toluna survey.
*Made a loaf in the BM. Dough for bread rolls just proving. Next job will be shaping it.
*Did some surveys. They do get boring, but I love the vouchers.
*No heating on downstairs. Usually aim to keep it off till 5pm in winter (unless really freezing) but last night, we didn't need it at all. That's a few hours of gas saved :-)
*Another gift I ordered online arrived today. Am saving the boxes which will be useful for a couple of hampers I need to make. No way am I paying out hard cash for a BOX!!
*Carry on with knitting - one pattern is very complicated & I had another big strop over it last night when one of the needles fell right out & left me with a whole row of tiny unravelling stitches. Good job no swear box in this house or we'd have been down to shirt buttons for the rest of the month :-/
*Do next week's meal plan - £45 left in grocery budget but have got a decent amount of food in.
*Write shopping list & investigate Sainsbury's voucher.
*Make a list of jobs I could usefully do in town tomorrow while I have the car, to get it all done on just one parking fee, rather than go in on multiple days.
Oh......& the 'horrible cat meat' that cat was refusing to eat yesterday? Today's it's his best thing. Has scoffed it straight down with not a single grumble. You can't make 'em up!
Ziggy - I'm sending you some positive vibes up across the county borders! Have you got them yet? We like your posts & I for one like to know what you are crafting. I'm knitting socks & mittens at the moment. The mitten pattern has been translated from Russian & is the trickiest thing I have knitted to date because of all the traditional folk techniques I'm not acquainted with. DEFO more swearing than actual knitting, lol!
Have a decent day, all of you,
    f x
P.S Town trip tomorrow, city centre trip on Sat. I WILL find some roadkill. Yes I will! It may only be a penny, but I am determined to find some.......so Bobarella, if you've found £19-76 in assorted denominations on your way to the shops this weekend......I don't want to know :-) ........(I do really.......)

  • Hello all
Am reeling from the success that gas meter complaint is finally resolved and I am due a £340 refund that should be in the bank by 24th. AT LAST!
This is fab news because it means all the energy saving practises we have put in place actually did work last year and motivates us to continue with the same (only tumble dry when desperate, be very sparing with the heating and so on).
However, I now have to deal with the company still wanting to increase my monthly payments by £30+ from next month. Makes absolutely no sense whatsoever (other than they get to keep my money in their account for a year.....).

Otherwise, much the same as usual. Lifts to work, packed lunches, meals from plan, dog walking, library book reading and general penny pinching activities in our house.

    Best wishes all x

Yes, I want to know as well. Speaking as someone with ten left thumbs, who is dazzled with admiration at the talents of those who can do Russian knitting :)

My mum taught me to knit aged 4. The trouble is, I never got any better at it :o I do a mean line in teddy bears' scarves which vary in width along their lengths and include random holes though :rotfl:

Also can't crochet, sew, draw, paint or anything else. However, OH's small business involves making nice things out of wood and other natural materials that sell in posh shops for lots of money. They take a long time to do though unfortunately, which is why it remains a small business.
