4G cost me a new TV ariel

Hi, There's a mobile mast nearby which has been 4G enabled. So since the switch on we lost huge numbers of tv Channels or what was left was badly pixelated all from an Ariel that cost £300 a couple of years ago. There were leaflets which advised to call for a booster - but it didn't help at all. Long story short the free booster people didn't help and we had to spend another £200 on another new Ariel. Next door neighbour has since had to get a new Ariel too. So 4G which I don't get on my mobile has cost a fortune, how can this be right?

Was there not mention of a compensation scheme, for homes affected, when 4G was proposed ?

    Basically it’s not right !!

The rule was always “he who comes later and causes interference to existing working installations - ceases transmissions until he fixes the problem”. However this gentlemanly approach seems to have been overtaken, as now it appears that money talks ( 4G operators = government revenue) and the basic rules are now interpreted differently.

I don’t know your particular installation and location and it is now unfortunately too late to help practically.

If you had a new aerial a couple of years ago and it was installed correctly it should have still been satisfactory even today with a correctly positioned 4G filter.

Did the original aerial installer fit an amplifier to your aerial? If so this may have been the problem.

Initially the digital TV service on low power, and sometimes required the TV signal to be boosted with an amplifier. However as the switch over is now complete, all TV transmitters have increased power, aerial amplifiers are not normally required.

The current high power digital TV transmitter signal plus aerial amplifier together with the 4g signals could have been swamping your TV tuner with loads of mixed up signals and this was causing the problem.

Not knowing the particular detailed circumstances, it is difficult to speculate; but from the OP information it certainly looks as if you had a bum deal all round.

The digital switch over people sent out something to add to TV to sort out interference .

Yes, a notch filter for connection to the aerial cable IIRC.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
