Question about SSP

Hi
I have just been to the hospital as I injured my thumb at work yesterday & I have been told that I have tendonitis in my thumb, I asked about working & they said it was up to me, but I can't work as I have to use both hands & I have my thumb & hand all bandaged up now (the hospital did it), I also have to go back in a week to get it checked again
My question is, I am on a Zero Hours Contract & I was wondering if I could get SSP
A little background about work, I have been working for the company now for 11 weeks, I have worked at least 28 hours per week, most weeks I have worked 33-37 hours, I am on a zero hours contract & I get 4 weeks paid holiday per year (not sure if that is relevant!)
Please help, I can't afford to have no income at all for a few weeks

Obviously your choice, but you mentioned they were going to train you on different areas - Would this be a good time for you to work the tills/do something else?
Just because your boss might appreciate shuffling someone about rather than finding someone to cover your shifts. That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.

Good thinking NewShadow, I will have to speak to my manager about that when I ring him tomorrow, as you say it may be a good time to learn it now, plus then I don't have to lose any money (except today's shift, due to being at the hospital)0

Calling and asking about any alternative work also shows a positive attitude towards the place you are working and can't do any harm even if there isn't anything they can offer.0
-
Yeah, if you have read any of my previous post in other threads, I have a positive attitude to work anyway, so always try to find a way around things0

On a zero hour contract your holiday should be worked out in hours rather than weeks.0
-
Yeah but works out at 28 days holiday per year0
-
How many hours pay do you get for a week off?0
-
it's work out the same as the week before the holiday (so if I had a holiday this week I would get paid 35 hours, as I did 35 hours last week), you see how it works0
-
That's the wrong way to work it out, what if you worked 35 hrs for six weeks and then 25 hours for three, would you only get paid 25 hrs pay if you were off the following week? If so you may be getting short changed.0
