Swap dial thermostat to digital - boilermate
I'm sure this has been asked before, but I'm on my tablet and having trouble searching.
We have a dial thermostat and I would love to have a digital thermostat so we can have heating on low overnight and set program so it goes a little warmer before everyone gets up in the morning.
I am thinking that it is just a simple switch for the thermostat (don't want to pay a plumber if not needed) but we have a boilermate - I'm sure this is a different thing to the heating timer, but does anyone know for sure?!
Totally confused!! lol
Thanks

It's not difficult to change a stat to a programable one0

Thanks guys!
Sounds like a fairly easy thing to do myself - will be giving it a go at the weekend :beer:Trying to regain my comping mojo0 -
What is your existing system? is it a combi or system boiler,is there a timeswitch/programmer fitted,if so ..where?Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

OP says it's a boilermate
It's a thermal store system that gives mains pressure hot water.
There will be a timer fitted for space heating purposes (thermal store heating is not on a timer as it would defeat they whole purpose)
The OP indicates that their space heating is also controlled by a basic, non-programable thermostat, and wishes to replace this with a programable one.
As others have already indicated, such replacement is not too difficult (and is unaffected by the fact they have a boilermate)0 -
Thanks for your replies, didn't manage to do anything this past weekend - will try again this weekend coming.
Just wondering if anyone knows how many wires there maybe on a Potterton dial thermostat - wondering if I may need a battery digital thermostat. Have tried to take existing thermostate off wall to see, but at the moment it is refusing to move! Don't really want to force it off wall incase I break it - don't fancy having no heating until the weekend!!
