Debt from old Barclaycard - Cabot - Default dispute

I had a Barclaycard in the late 90's, and later got into financial difficulties and started an arrangement with them to pay it off, which started in 2001.
I can't remember why, but the payments stopped from my bank in May 2009.
I did not receive any default notice as I moved house a couple of times, and didn't inform them.
Upon seeing a default from Cabot DCA on my credit file a few months ago, I wrote to them asking what it was about, as I had forgotten about this old debt, and thought it was a mistake on my file.
I have since received correspondence from Cabot stating it is to do with the Barclaycard debt.
The entry on my Noddle credit file for the default date is Sept 2010.
According to my bank statements, the last payment made to this Barclaycard was May 2009. Am I right in thinking the default date should have been 6 months after no payments - November 2009?
I wrote to Cabot disputing the default date, and also asking for a historic detailed statement, but Cabot wrote back stating:
Barclaycard sent me a formal demand Aug 2010.
As no response, default was registered Sept 2010.
Account sold to Cabot Dec 2010.
They stated Barclaycard have advised they are unable to provide statements, but also confirmed my last payment was May 2009.
Can anyone advise if I am correct about a default having to be issued no later than 6 months after non payment?
If so, I would like to challenge it with Cabot/Barclaycard. I also got letter from Cabot this week asking me to pay the £130.

You are correct.
The default date should be no later than 6 months, probably from the first missed payment, which would be June.
Complain in writing stating that they must correct it or you will have no choice but to refer to FOS.
It's helpful they also confirmed the last payment date was May.
