Hi not sure if this is the correct board but I hope you can help. I need some information on the term in a bank statement.
In nationwide when you see transfer from or to does that mean it has come from another of your own accounts? If someone transfers money into your account what would that show?
Thanks

Thanks.
The reason I ask is because I think my wife could be hiding a savings account from me and we are going through a divorce. On the statement she supplied there are two strange account numbers with large withdrawal's but it only says Transfer from and the sort code and account number. So thought it was just from her internal account but seems it could be from another party with a nationwide account0 -
The Payment Council have a useful sort code checker (http://www.paymentscouncil.org.uk/resources_and_publications/sort_code_checker/) that can be used to find out both if a sort code is valid and to which bank it's assigned.0

Usually but not necessarily. Confusingly I had an unexpected sum of money deposited to my Nationwide account as "Transfer". This had a reference of someone's name that was not mine nor that of anyone that I know. When I queried it in branch I was told that it came from a Lloyds bank branch in an area with which I have no connection. (An online banking secure message reply had previously informed me that it was an internal transfer!)
I successfully arranged in branch for the money to be returned to whence it came. Customers of financial institutions that claim not to be able to identify the source of mystery deposits please note.0 -
If it is related to a divorce then when you raise questions following financial disclosure ask for those payments to be identified. All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0
