Can I get my 18 month old LCD TV repaired after the 1 year warranty has expired?

Hi
I purcased my Tatung 23"LCD about 18 months ago and last week it stopped working completely. I appreciate that the warranty has run out but I would expect something that cost over £650 to still be functioning in such a short period of time. I have contacted both the retailer and manufacturer (Tatung) I asked Tatung to arrange for the tv to be repaired at no cost to me, they refused. What are my rights?

I think your rights were to have the T.V repaired within the one year of the warranty if it went wrong. One year has now passed, sadley it's all down to you,Please do not feed the Trolls!0

You're right, Sally. Goods should last a reasonable amount of time, and while I personally might not expect a Tatung to last very long, that's likely not what the courts would say about a £650 telly. A £650 TV is not a disposable item.
I believe the law you're looking for is the durability clause of the Sale and Supply of Goods act.
I think it would be reasonable for them to expect you to accept a repair, rather than replacement, unless you can provide evidence that this particular model has a history of early failure, and thus is inherently flawed.
PS. Next time, buy a Panasonic0 -
Thanks for your message, I ve emailed Tatung quoting the Sales and Supply of Goods act which was recommended on this site_ hope it works!

As lemmings has advised, your contract when you bought the TV is with the shop and that's where your first port of call should be.
Unless of course, you bought the set direct from the manufacturer.
Sale of Goods act states that all goods should last a reasonable length of time. Reasonable is open to interpretation but regardless of what you think of the Tatung brand, 18months is not a reasonable life span for a TV.
Contact the retailer, quoting the act and that you're entitled to refund/repair/replacement depending on what the act says - i can't remember exactly what it says but you should be able to get something done.
