Groupon - False Information on Listing

Hi

I saw a bed on Groupon and not only did the price attract me but also the fact that I could choose my delivery day. As I work Monday to Friday and don't get home until 6, this appealed to me as I'd be able to arrange it for when someone would be in.

I forked out the money and awaited a call from someone to ask me when I'd like it to be delivered. Instead, they attempted delivery without warning. I spoke to the courier and they advised it was not possible to book a delivery time and that they would attempt it one last time before returning it. I had to take an unpaid day off work to wait in for it.

I complained via telephone to Groupon and the girl apologised and said the listing would be amended and they would credit me £200. I dropped the matter and awaited the credit but when it appeared it was only £20. I contacted Groupon via email and they said I had misheard the agent and would only offer me another £10 credit. I don't want to seem greedy but I missed out on a day's wage because of their error and I feel like I am the one being penalised. I've gone back and forth to them over the last few weeks but I'm really not getting anywhere.

Is there a way I can lodge a formal complaint outside of the company?

Many thanks!

  • Yes, you can go onto their website and look up their complaints department - both Groupon and the merchant seller. Who else would you complain to outside of the companies offering the service?

Lots of places don't let you choose delivery slots anymore, particularly on cheap deals. You got it on a specific day, would you have not had a take a day for another delivery date?
Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

    Hi

    Thanks for your response.

That's the thing, I cannot find a complaints procedure etc on their website. I'm still looking and googling but so far, no luck. I also wanted to know if there was some sort of trading standards ombudsman or something.

Their listing specifically says in the fine print that a delivery slot needs to be pre-arranged. That's Groupon's issue not the merchants. I would not have taken a day off, I would have organised it so that someone else would have been in on the day

    @ Powerful Rogue

Thank you but I don't have a problem with the merchant though, my problem is with Groupon and I want to complain to them about their mistake.

    Thanks

Thank you wealdroam. I did see that but I don't know where to write to - I can't find anything on Groupon's website
  • Have you tried asking Groupon what their complaints process is?

Yes I have. I've been in contact with someone via email and he has not passed these on so far, I think he thinks I have an issue with the merchant and not Groupon.

I'm now emailing him directly again but this time as a formal complaint due to breach of contract and to pass this on to the relevant department rather than him being the middle man and passing messages back and forth. It would be good to get an address to write to say they can't say they didn't receive the email but it's not looking hopeful.

Thanks for all your help. Will let you know how I get on

If you are looking to write a real letter, then their registered office address is in their T&Cs.

    Which is:
    MyCityDeal Limited (t/a Groupon UK)
    Seal House
    1 Swan Lane
    London
    EC4R 3TN

MSE's How to Complain article may help.
