Hi all I wonder if any of you savvy people can help me .
I am currently with british gas for both my gas and elect.
My elect is on a payment meter because I did have debt on there but have cleared it all now .
I have look at different companies but am a bit worried if I am doing the right thing changing ... I am one of those people who always stick by who I have been with .
I have read on here about a credit meter with regards to the elect I don't really understand what the difference is can anyone explain please or would you just recommend getting rid of the meter all together and just going direct debit ??
Very confused

Easy enought to sort your confusion
A credit meter is for Direct Debit customers.
First off, ascertain if British Gas will allow you to go on to a credit meter and how much (if anything) they charge for having the meters changed.
Once done it opens up a large number of tariff's you can choose from.
If you know your consumption in kWh then comparrison sites can give you more accurate figures to determine who is the best supplier for you. There is no point staying loyal to British Gas if they are more expensive - they offer nothing for loyalty, why should you? They rely on people being complacent to keep the prices artificially high.0 -
Ok so my first step is to ring british gas and ask about the credit meter and then go from there I guess .
You nay good with car insurance lol I am changing everything in a bid to rain some money in .0 -
Ok so have rang british gas and they are coming out on 20th dec to change meter for a credit meter . What am I going to achieve from doing this ??0

Paying by DD is cheaper than Prepayment. You can't pay by DD if you have a Prepayment meter.0 -
The difference is 6% to 30% cheaper bills. (Closer to just 6% for the electricity, though.) Access to the full range of suppliers and tariffs.
Caveat: cheaper at the end of the day - you do have to ride the vagaries of their calculators and be able to accommodate short and medium term changes to the size of the instalment.
Alternatively, especially for electricity when you have gas heating, you could opt for quarterly direct debit but that may require even more care to ensure you have the funds in your bank account.0 -

British Gas will likely put you on their Standard Tariff once the new meter is in, so waste no time in shopping around for a better deal. You will likely save around 10%, maybe more on your pre-pay meter, which is not to be sneezed at.
Re: Car Insurance. No, I seem to fail at that, goes up every year! There is always a reason. New Car to you. Not Working now. It rained last Thursday. They've thought of everything!0 -
So would I be better to ask for the prepayment box to be removed totally and not have a credit one put in ?
Also if I changed to a new supplier would they take the meter out or do British Gas have to do it ??0
