Your neighbour may just be jealous of the fact that you've bought a new car.

As said above, I'd let the police do their work first. Hopefully it will be settled at court with him having to pay the costs of the repair (best case scenario)

It's just a pity the above isn't in place yet?
No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......
  • Hi all - thanks for all your info so far. I was too suprised to find out they may potentially be able to claim from his motor insurance.

So to answer a few questions - I had CCTV outside my house because I got hold of some second hand equiptment cheap.

I signed a statement only, I did't sign that part making me abide my the polices decision.

I am currently awaiting to be assigned a investigating officer, however some good news has transpired over the day.

So my insurance said tbey would repair it without affecting my no claims, however I would have to cover a £400 excess which depending on liability I could get back.

However today I showed the offenders wife the footage, she wasn't happy! Later that evening the offending neighbor knocked on my door, apologised and offered to pay all of the costs.

I explained that I would let the police continue with the matter but would going to my insurer to tell then to redirect all the costs to him.

After speaking to the insurer they have said once they have contacted him and spoke to him they could 'waive' the excess and ensure I am not held for an 'at fault claim'.

I am still awaiting police but hopefully heading in the right direction now!

Any indication of why he did it?

Has he ever heard the phrase "in vino veritas"?

That could cause you a problem. I am fairly sure that when you give evidence to the police you are supposed to give all copies too.

I'd forget the insurance then and have him pay the lot.

Otherwise you're still left declaring a 'claim' for the next 5 years
