Posting a large cheque

There is an episode of the Simpson's that Mr Burns gives some money to a hospital to have a ward named after him. He opens his draw and there is a huge cheque book. He writes the check, tears it out and folds it up dead small. Homer then puts it in his back pocket and it unfolds to its full size.0

Interesting advice. I was planning on sending it recorded delivery so there could be no quibbling over the postal system side. The cheque is indeed issued from my current account.
But there's no point in fiddling about with £1 first; as long as you have all the account opening documents (inc ID) send them with the full cheque and your interest should be backdated to when they bank the cheque.
If you wait till you have full confirmation before you send the main cheque, you stand to lose up a fortnight's interest, ie £25 minimum for the kind of money you were talking about.0 -
That's pretty much what I was thinking, so I've gone ahead and posted the cheque recorded delivery. A fortnight would cost us £115 at the rate of interest the savings would achieve.
I'll let you know if everything goes to plan or not.0
